Three straight weeks of double digit penalties for 100 yards or more. Most of them either personal fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct. And at least 3 of them....well after the play is over. STUPID...STUPID...STUPID. We're simply not getting the point across from the coaching side. Yep....this 7-2 record....is disappointing. They obviously had a different game plan than I did. What are you gonna do? Like Rush said last night....if there was a way to FORK something up....we found it. MD's unusually talented roster has been able to make up for it so far though. We'll see whether the penalties cost them a championship when and if they meet SJB again in the playoffs. The way it was explained to me by a REAL guru....two things hafta happen: (1) Colquitt has to beat Lowndes (2) No matter how many points WE score ....we hafta hold Lowndes to 47 points or less. But we hafta win. Tift is setting at 86 points (51 to Lowndes and 35 to Colquitt) Lowndes is setting at 38. (They've only played Tift) Colquitt is setting at 38 (We've only played Tift) If we only allow Lowndes 47...then we're at 85...1 less than Tift. Lowest total wins No.1 seed. Then it goes to head to head. And of course, this is all considering Tift beats Camden. If they don't...then all we gotta do is win. But we gotta win or all is for naught. Rufus>> I ESPECIALLY liked the one where we had a dead ball, personal foul penalty! For a hit outta bounds, after we had left Tift with a fourth and fifteen! But it was a CLOSE RACE with that fifteen yard penalty, twenty yards behind the play, on the 97 yd. touchdown run on the KO! And lil known factoid! Did anybody realize that the BLACK HATS were down TWO defenders at full strength, on that last five? J.J injured his foot early in the second half, and a starting LBer was out altogether! And when we DO grab a lead, he has a propensity to start running clock, a la Camden! It just happened to work THAT night! Against HELL, NOT so much! They were HELL BENT to take away our run, and put it on the shoulders of an inconsistent QB1! The lack of a willingness to go for the throat like in past seasons, is the main issue this season! Well THAT, and DUMB ASS PENALTIES! HELL, when we were trying to hang onto that eight point lead! We RAN THREE STRAIGHT PLAYS! With the exception of that last drive against Archer in 2014! It is an issue that is much closer to his chest. Just fyi, the penalty on the kick return was not a block in the back, it was a blindside hit. Same thing they called on Tift earlier in the game. He was treated in the tent at one point in the third quarter, I assume for whatever caused the limp. JJ got upset early in the second quarter after his visor became detached from his helmet. Last season at Brodie Field he got poked in the eyes and couldn't see and was sidelined for most of the fourth quarter. This is why he got ill that his visor got damaged last night. He has strong body language and his demeanor is sometimes "pissy", but he has heart. A ton of it. JJ played hard last night. I think he was in on damn near every tackle, and if he wasn't he was in the area. Saw the blindside hit happen. It did happen, so it is what it is, but it certainly was 20+ yards from the ball. Just another of the dumb mistakes that young teams make. The refs appeared to want to be a big part of the game last night, and they were. Often throwing flags far away from the play etc. One of them had Popeye arms I'd reckon! Throwing the flag from his position to 25 or 30 yards away. Maybe had eagle eyes too.
