With CalPreps final preseason rankings being released today, the first composite poll of 2024 is now available. USAToday has stated they are planning to release "preseason" rankings, but as of today those have not yet been released. If they release them prior to next Friday, I will update the the comp poll preseason composite. If USAToday releases them after next week, they will be rolled in to the Week 0 composite (or whatever week they happen to be released).

Surprised to see SFA left out of 2 of the polls….

The Milton vs AHP game on 8/23 looks like a nice matchup!….

While the on3/Massey ratings appear very poor, the on3 site is emerging as really good for following the teams (assuming details are accurate, which I can't be 100% sure yet). You can click on the school names and see results, recruited players and alumni. It is worth the occasional visit, even if the ratings themselves are dumb.

Hmm.  I'm starting to see @badrouter's point on lakeland.  A big school from a power state is 10-0 and multiple 3 loss teams and 2 loss teams are way ahead of them in the comp poll.  lol

...and a win that would've been considered highly marquee had any team from another state gotten it. Instead the win was seen more as a loss for Central. I am not taking wins over Edgewater or STA for granted (though I applaud the major change at QB which no one knows about). It remains to be seen whether Lakeland is the best team in the state, but I do think they've earned the right to be ranked where Larry Blustein has had them for the last three months.

That said, the majority of my commentary on the rankings has not been about Lakeland specifically. People only tried to dismiss things I say by claiming the comments were about Lakeland.

The trend towards COMPLETELY disregarding losses that rankers don't think would be repeated is the most egregious issue, and is fairly new. Chaminade lost to Ely. Note the period at the end of the preceding sentence. That has to have some sort of effect on their ranking. Clearly, it has ZERO effect for those who have Chaminade in the top 10, because the loss to SJB did impact their ranking.

Wow! It still boggles my mind that you think C-M is not worthy of their lofty status. You damn well know they would destroy Ely in a rematch (or maybe you don’t?) The only other time I disregarded a loss was IMG/Corner Canyon. I have since corrected that in my poll.
