9/20 big night

Mater Dei 25 St. Frances 14

DeMatha 49 Roman Catholic 12

St. Joseph's Prep 21 Good Counsel 19

Archbishop Spalding 35 Calvert Hall 0

Gonzaga 42 Archbishop Carroll 0

Quince Orchard 10 Stone Bridge 0

Maury 47 Dinwiddie 7

Riverdale Baptist 28 Bishop McNamara 6 (stopped in the third quarter due to an "incident" according to Twitter)

Friendship Collegiate 20 Dunbar DC 14

Falls Church 43 Annandale 42 (Falls Church had scored a total of 14 points in their previous 13 games)

Huge statement win for DeMatha, they were up 42-6 at halftime against the same team that blew out SJC. Looks like no one is going to touch Spalding the rest of the season.

Fort Hill had two tds called back by penalty. Game was played in a steady light rain. Fort Hill took all snaps from under center, Hollidaysburg ran out of a pistol and had trouble with their snaps all evening.

Loyola Blakefield 35 Mount St. Joseph 21

Concordia Prep 18 Gilman 3

East was 5-1. Lost their opener. Fort Hill runs a wing t offense and East had no clue as to how to defend it.

11/1

St. Frances 30 IMG Academy 3

Good Counsel 21 Gonzaga 0

DeMatha 37 Bishop McNamara 0

Quince Orchard 47 Sherwood 22

Loyola Blakefield 27 Milford Mill 20 (Milford Mill was 8-0)

Calvert Hall 21 Concordia Prep 9

Thomas Jefferson 28 Armstrong 14 (both were undefeated...great season for Richmond schools)

Poquoson 42 Bruton 6 (both were undefeated. Bruton has won more games this year than they did from 2014-2021 combined)

Big news of the week in VA was that Hayfield is banned from the playoffs for two years...presumably this is due to the ongoing transfer/residency issue, but the VHSL's response to the media was "we won't give any details, direct your FOIA requests to the school" so who knows. Apparently an appeal will be decided next week. Curious to hear the details since it is rare for any schools to be punished for anything here.

I didn't see any notable upsets in the MD or VA public school playoffs. The big news is that Hayfield got a court injunction to be reinstated into the VA playoffs, so the pairings in their region had to redone and the games pushed back to next Thursday, presumably they will have to play on a condensed schedule.

MIAA and VISAA finals tomorrow.
