Wooderson
Big-school season kicks off in just under three hours. Notable game tonight is my Centennial Coyotes traveling to play perennial power Hamilton. Centennial looking to reload after a state runner-up finish, have experience at quarterback, running back, and on the o-line but are replacing their only D1 recruits who were instrumental in the pass game on both sides of the ball. Will be a very different team come game six when two 1000-yard transfer receivers become eligible. Hamilton is also experienced at QB and has three transfers from Saguaro that are immediately eligible due to a successful hardship appeal (Centennial also has a Saguaro kid that is available tonight). Probably going to be Centennial's biggest test this season aside from the season finale against Liberty.

Wooderson
Hamilton marches right down the field first series and punches it in. 7-0, 9:55 in first.
Wooderson
Teams exchange punts then Centennial takes advantage of some field position, cut it to 7-3 with three left in first.

The hardship application, I assume, said something to the effect of "Saguaro's best players all left and we're going to suck! Help get me out of here!" Help get me out of here!" Close. It said that an email was leaked to the media where Saguaro's principal used a racial slur in reference to the football program and wasn't punished beyond a public apology. When your program drops off don't give families an easy out.
Wooderson
Hamilton tight end drops a wide open catch at the goal line, settles for a field goal. 10-3 Hamilton, five left in first.
Wooderson
10-3 Hamilton at the half. Typical sloppy first game. The other games of somewhat national interest: Chandler 20, Cesar Chavez 6 at the half American Leadership Academy - Queen Creek 17, Saguaro 3 at the half

Wooderson
Centennial caps off a seven minute drive with a short pass into the end zone, two point conversion converted but illegal motion wipes it out and they settle for the 10-10 tie with 2:53 in third.
Wooderson
Hamilton takes advantage of good field position and punches it in from inside the five, retake the lead 17-10 with under six left in the game.

The former 2 best QC high lineman (and wrestler) are their core. Of course Detmer was shuffled over to Gilbert ALA for damage control of the Morman nerds (Gilbert Goons) and Saguaro is a shell of itself. So really hard to say what that means. I watched a little bit of the game, not much. Last I saw was 10-10 early 4th. I was more interested in UNC/Minnesota. I had UNC (-2) and Tits had Minnesota money line. so we both got screwed 😂

Typical early season Centennial game; lots of cramping, play-calling out of sixties, grotesque timeout management (they used their last timeout four minutes into the fourth quarter) and somehow managed to have a decent Hail Mary opportunity at the end. Hamilton has a lot to work on too but they were far closer to a finished product than what we did. Next week we get Highland who is still very good but probably a better matchup for us (their QB isn't a state qualifying hurdler so we should have better luck putting a lid on him). And of course the week six additions of two all-state caliber receivers and two 250-pound d-linemen will be nice too.
