Get ready for a Rough Ride

It was supposed to come right over the top of us then it went east about 30 miles.  We got a lot of rain and some wind but not too bad.  My subdivision sits in a little bit of a depression so wind event may not be bad for me but half a mile away may get it bad.

I had heard it shifted east after landfall. Obviously it affected us here in Charlton, Pierce, Ware and surrounding counties so much more than projected. Still probably going to be days without power for me and possibly weeks for them folks. The devastation is unreal.

How are you holding up where you live? How much damage in your area?

I got lucky.

Thank God I got 0 damage

But a few major roads in my area got down trees so other than traffic inconvenience nothing much...

There's a few rivers their still eyeing because the massive amount of rain water has made every single creek and river nearby swell and overflow.

Have they got y'alls power situation straight?

I heard Camden and Charlton counties where having some Blackouts,Flooding and power issues

Still quite a few people ( me included) without power. Ga power is estimating oct. 5 before power is restored. Im hoping that is a worse case scenario and maybe sooner. We have lines down on our street so I know it will be a while. I think most people with okefenokee rural electric have power though.

Is power back up?

My mom said her power came back on then went back out in under 2 minutes and she hasn't text me back yet...

So I'm assuming she's either with my aunt or she made her way down to Orlando...

Cell signal has been ass all over the state all day...

My internets up and running pretty good...

Heard from my folks in Savannah...

They had 8 active tornadoes on the ground last night...

Savannah,Camden County,Mcintosh county and Glynn County are dealing with sea surge flooding....

@JCGIII I heard Augusta caught it nasty too...

@Fred I gotta go up to Blairsville and Blue Ridge tomorrow... and I've been forewarned that the mountains are hazardous at the moment... Downed trees flooded mountain Creeks...

So I gotta take the long way around...

Power is still out on most areas but they are getting it on. Depending on who there carrier is. Georgia power has priority over colquitt emc.

@HawgGoneIt @Ga96 @Fred @dntn31 @Cossacks looks like we got a Copycat Hurricane developing in the Gulf right behind Helene...

NHC is saying it could stabilize in under a week and take a similar path to Helene...

Man... this Hurricane season waited late to pop off and Outbreak season starts in October too....

My insurance rates are about to take a mysterious spike...

"Sorry but we can no longer keep you on the rate of $265.69  due to (Insert BS excuse) we will be increasing rates to $300.65"

Yeah with power and stuff off I've cancelled everything except insurance on vehicles. Got a big ass pecan tree I have to move.

I have a friend that we kind of partner together on our side business to help each other out. His son and fellow partner in the business works on transmission for Ga Power and is in the Valdosta area repair the high voltage lines.  His dad told me that his son said he had never seen that kind of damage and it was worse than what was being shown.  I think he said Ga Power had 65 interruptions on the high voltage transmission side of things.

@Fred I know your slightly closer to it than me but do you smell that?

It smells like a Clorox bomb got dropped outside...

I have to be careful around things like that as I'll trigger a coughing attack so I stayed in today until a few minutes ago when it was all gone.  My wife said it was no worse that what the bathroom smells like after cleaning it.  We had fog roll in this morning and a slight smell and everyone was losing their minds thinking it was the smoke cloud.  It would have taken 10 times or more as smoke from that event to have create what we had this morning.  We're talking like 10s of thousands of acres of burning to get the density of the fog this morning.

We didn't get any smoke but the scent was strong...

It smelt like someone dropped clorox on us and it did sting my eyes a bit...

I wonder what caused the explosion and fire to break out.

It's been reported a sprinkler head leaked onto the materials and the resulting heat generated by the chemical reaction started a fire on the roof.  More water and more chemical reaction.  If you remember your high school chemistry, always add acid to water, not water to acid.

Man...

Chemistry is not my specialty...

In HS Me and a friend dropped a sun dried habenero pepper into a bunson burner beaker full of water and vinegar....

We maced the whole class basically...

My power got restored late yesterday, internet today. Cell service is still horrid.

The visible damage wasn't as bad as Michael but then Michael didn't take cell service and internet on this level. Took my power 8 days for that storm. Two and a half on this one.

Micheal was a monster in its own right...

Helene was a monster too... even all the way up here cell service was/is dodgy and down in alot of places still...
