Florida Point System - Who's in

Thought I would post the FHSAA site for anyone interested in the new Florida playoff format.

New point system leaves some scratching their heads as brand name teams miss playoffs for scheduling tough games and losing a few.

Who outside of BTW who is 4-5 and would have a outside shot of making it had they rescheduled Miami Southridge game and won or won at least 1 of their other tough games

They would have made it at 6-4 but 4-5 isn't helping matters

MCC is projected to make it despite people thinking they would be a casualty of the system

Who else is outside looking in?

Like honestly who i scanned it last week but I'm not sure what it looks like this week

So do the top 4 teams make it or only the ones highlighted in red.

The ones highlighted in red are ones projected to make it and if you look further down it also shows the projected first round matchups

One sec I'll write up a example that will also show the second round matchups

Not so sure about scheduling down. Viera went undefeated 4 years ago playing mostly Brevard teams(which were mediocre at best). First round of play-offs got blown out by Port Charlotte. Team was totally unprepared for speed and physical play at that level. Coach Mays learned from that, and Viera plays one of the hardest regular season schedules possible to condition team to play at a play-off level.

The biggest schools also have great coaches and realize to go far in play-offs a challenging schedule is a must. I hope the system can be manipulated better to take into account a schedule like BTW and reward it as opposed to hurting it. The last thing highschool football fans want to see is scheduling being downgraded. We all lose...

This guy gets a gold star.  That is the problem this year. I guess what they are trying to do is level the playing field by forcing teams to play like teams. The better the team you play and win, the better your chances of making the playoffs and having a high seed. Schedule a soft schedule and you may get in but there is a good chance you are not ready for the playoffs and you will travel the whole way to state.

The #1 seed has home field through out the playoffs until the championships which will be played in Orlando.

4 regions in 5 through 8A with 8 playoff teams in each region. 4 regions in 1 through 4A with 4 teams in each region.

5 through 8A will play a total of 5 games including the finals in Orlando.

1 through 4A will play a total of 4 games including the finals in Orlando.

1 through 4A will play the Friday and Saturday  weekend before 5 through 8A for a total of 4 games the last 2 weekends of the HS football season in Florida.

Not sure if Florida will host a National playoff this year.

Moeller got in the playoffs in Ohio with a 4-6 record.  They got in over Elder who beat Moeller by 4 scores.  Moeller played the more difficult schedule and beat Scott County, who's the no.2 team in Kentucky and St. Ignatius who is a top 4 or 5 team in Ohio.  Scott County went 8 and 2 and St. Ignatius went 9 and 1.  It's all about who you beat and their final record.

The whole thing is stupid. If Florida had the correct number of classes, the correct number of teams per class, and larger districts, this would never be an issue.

FLA needs to cut it to 6 classes. Each class except the bottom one or two,  would have about 120 teams and 7-8 team districts. This would ensure quality, winning teams make the playoffs. If they want to get away from the rigid formula they had before for playing the first 3 rounds solely based on geographic district, I'm fine with that. They could just seed the teams 1-8 and continue to reseed. Vote by the principals, AD's, and head coaches by each team in the region (not just the ones that qualified for the playoffs) would do the job. District Champs get seeds 1-4 in the first round of seedings, and then it would be open after that. That alone would make it more competitive.

Read up on the FL point system, and it seems like an amateurish attempt at the Ohio Harbin system......There's a few big flaws, first and foremost getting points for losses...... that is a terrible idea and the OHSAA has always been vehemently against that idea.

So beating Terry Parker should get points but losing to img shouldn't?

Good luck convincing Florida teams to play good in state competition

No you should never get points for losing games.  By giving losing teams points, all you do is create a situation where the lower or middling teams can stay with the rest of the teams by winning a few games and bounce better teams from the playoffs

So if im understandung this correctly...

The only reason STA got in is because they beat SJB. Had they lost they wouldve been out... or in because they where #1 in their piss poor district?

No they would have been in

They are number 1 seed in region 4 by a stretch plus they in a 3 team district with Fort Lauderdale and Ely
