What if we applied the 1A-7A system to CA?

I've been wondering this for awhile now. I didnt classify every school I only did the top 15... or close to it...

So I'll start off with the powerhouses...  schools:

Mater Dai-6A-Co-ed private so they dont get the enrollment boost that non co-ed privates do...  they fall short of 7A by 300 students...

SJB-Gets the double boost-6A-Barely.

Servite-4A

OLU-6A

JSerra-6A

SM-6A

Mission Viejo-7A

Folsom-7A

Cen10-7A

LBP-7A

DLS-6A

Bakersfield-7A

Vista Murrieta-6A

Bishop Amat-6A

Narbonne-7A

Norco-6A

Interesting thought but MD and SJB can beat the 7A schools.  Narbonne very good in city league but can't compete with other 7A teams listed.  Norco can't play effectively with the other 6A teams listed.   Enrollment just doesn't mean as much here.  King is a 3400 student school but loses many of their good athletes to other schools and really doesn't push football.

Vista Murrieta has experienced wild swings in their program.  Some years they could be just an okay 6A (maybe 5-5 team), but other years they would be terrible.

I don't know if there is a good system that would work.  The situation is too dynamic the way programs go up and down.   It used to be that the rest of the teams in Mission Viejo's league were competitive with them, but MV has elevated and like Cen10, just doesn't get challenged in league any more.

Gardena Serra, another team that can be scary one year, and really mediocre the next.  Same with Valencia.

I don't get San Diego.   You would think there would be a power program that would come up to challenge the LA area teams but apparently no good enough program.  They have some good privates, but not the same level as Trinity League.

It won’t matter to much for the State Championship...the Open Bowl Game pits the highest ranked SoCal team vs the higher ranked NorCal team regardless of division

Thanks for reminding me of that flawed Playoff system you all enjoy so much...

Did I mention your playoff system sucks... and your state association is stupid...

You’re right why would we want to see the highest ranked team in the north play the highest ranked team from the south🤔

REGARDLESS OF DIVISION though....

Thats terrible...

It'd be different if it was the best South 7A team vs the best North 7A team... but you play regardless of division...

Dude if we applies this to GA and FL it would be an absolut disaster....

For example South FL's best may be Miami Central-6A and North FL is a completely different world their best team may be 3A. Trinity Christian... thats a  terrible matchup...

Thing IS though, Cali cares little about SIZE! Evidently, SIZE DON'T MATTER!:)

THEIR criteria is, how well you did the season before, determining where your team is placed in the pecking order the following year! Which makes NO sense, since those teams should not be the same in quality! Course, they apparently include the creative playa acquisition factor into their equation!xD

Yeah, putting IMG, STA, MC, MNW, BTW, AHP, Cocoa, etc into one playoff is a terrible idea

Much better they’re in 6 different playoff brackets

1. IMG is not allowed to participate in FHSAA sanctioned post season playoffs.

2. California might not mind doing that because DLS has been busting Socals balls for years...

3. Again South FL and North FL are completely different football worlds...

Doesn’t have to be north/ south

FL a much smaller state

how bout just put the best 16 or 32 teams in one playoff — that’s what SoCal does and SoCal bigger than FL

In the GA system Servite who will finish 5th in the Trinity League would end up a State Champion 🤔

You're not making sense, my man.

The fact that a north-vs-south game wouldn't make sense in GA or FL doesn't imply that it doesn't make sense in CA.

As you yourself point out, the north has been doing just fine against the south in CA.

Ok Let me put it this way...

Norcal and Socal can compete because you dont have a massive division/population split...

GA for example:

There are only 4 7A schools.... in South GA...

44 in North GA...

And some years the best team in South GA  may not be a 7A school....

Believe it or not we did once operate like CA does...

And it made some lopsided ass state title games....

CA jiggers the boundary around by division a bit

big schools in central are now part of north and small schools part of south

norcal has 7 of CA’s 10 sections, but one of the socal sections has 60% of the schools in the whole state

Thats ridiculous..

do you mean 60% as in geographical location or 60% as CIF defined regions/sections...

I don't know, MHS.

Maybe I'm being dense and missing your point about competition and population splits in CA, but this all seems confused to me.

My point is y'all need a more effecient system at the very least get rid of the last year effect. Thats stupid. Last year should not effect this year.
