Here we go, the 1st Round of the Pick 'Em Playoffs... aka Week 12...

16 games to pick from this week. I went through and listed every good game and I saw and narrowed from there... I got rid of quite a few good ones, so 16 is as good as I can do as far as narrowing it down.

***In case of any ties, the GotW is: East (Salt Lake City) UT vs. Lone Peak UT... so pick the total points scored in that game and post the # beside your winner.***

Right!?

He is probably schemeing on how to put 30 California teams in the Top 3 Tears.

I would prefer we do head to head (1v16, 2v15, etc).

Where's the commish when you need one?😀

Very confusing

We dont need Samantha to come up with a good playoff system...

Californians know nothing about having a good playoff system...

Ah ECH in charge here😆

Im trying to ignore it... But it bugs me to know ends that you have a team like this in the playoffs: No league wins... But there in...

And then LBP and Cen10 compete in leagues with teams that dont even compete in their Division.

@CCBlackhatter like I said before essentially LBP and Cen10s league is the equivalent of having

Colquitt in a league with Thomasville,Warner Robins,Savannah and Clinch.

See the problem with that? They're all different class schools... thats what leagues in CA are like they take teams from 4A,3A,2A and 1A and put them in a league together and when playoffs come they all compete in different divisions...

LBP will be D1

Jordan will be D8,etc...

League games have no bearing on playoff placement or anything. WHY even have leagues...

California really falls hard under the everybody gets a trophy mentality

@Eddyr2   @On2whls. @BB bos I respect y'all but the CIF has to fix their mentality...

I know everyone wants to see their child get a trophy but thats not how life works...

I mean at the very least you can put teams in leagues where they all compete in the same class.

Most leagues are based on school districts and/or geographic locations. Other then the “Catholic leagues” (those leagues also sometimes include protestant schools, ie OLu), the schools in a given league are less then 5 miles from one another to cut down on travel time/cost. Plus these leagues are not just for football. Are you going to have the Cen10 Girl Golf team on a bus for 2 hours both ways on a Tuesday afternoon so they can play a league game vs Poly?

Here's what I would do, and most CA guys would go nuts but here goes.  When playoff bracketing comes around you create a privates/open bracket that would consist of, at a minimum, 6 teams from the 2 private leagues (consisting of both Trinity and Mission) and leave 2 spots open invitation to whichever public schools (in order of ranking) wanted a shot at the most prestigious title.  If no schools wanted in, then you simply put in the next 2 teams from the combined privates bracket. You could also make it it that  publics like Centennial and Mission Viejo that dominate their leagues year in year out, had to accept the invitation, but I'm pretty sure you will get at least two takers every year.   Winner of this 8 team bracket gets to play best team from the North.

You then put together a 16 team bracket from the next highest ranked teams.   Winner of this bracket gets to be crowned Division 1 Champ.  This year, it would look like this.

Open/Privates

MD

Bish Amat

Chaminade

Upland (accepts invitation if for no other reason than to keep arch rival Rancho out)

SJB

Santa Margarita

Cen 10 (no way they decline invitation)

JSerra

Div I Bracket

Mission Viejo (doesn't want into the Open)

Paraclete

Murrieta Valley

Charter Oak

LB Poly

Valencia

Notre Dame SO

OLU

Norco

Servite

Loyola

Serra

Heritage

San Clemente

Oaks Christian

Rancho Cucamonga (wanted into Open but lost to Upland so.....)

Okay this is not perfect, but here's what it does.   All the big privates have no easy game and don't get to whip the shit out of much lesser teams.  Best publics get a shot at open title.  Forces the second wave of privates to test there mettle against publics that are more in line with them.  Should eliminate some of the ridiculous round 1 and 2 blowouts.   Gives some unheralded teams a shot at glory that is somewhat realistic compared to current system.

Sends Vista Murrieta home where they belong.  Allows a team like OLU with a questionable record to prove on the turf how good they are.

How do you think it works in Region 1 7A athletics? The closest region game for Colquitt is Tift County. That is 27 miles/30+ minutes away. Lowndes is 48 miles/50+ minutes away. Then you have Camden way down in the swamp that is 145 miles away. When Valdosta was in our region, you would have to make that trip twice in some years.

We have fewer region teams now, but it beats those days when I was playing. We had HoCo, Warner Robins, Northside, and Coffee in the region... in addition to Tift, Lowndes and Valdosta. Every sport (except football) visited those schools at least once during the course of their seasons. Those poor JV girl soccer players had to travel 2+ hours round trip on week days in most of their region games.

Talk about racking up miles! But you all prefer to beat up the powder puffs on your street while complaining that our region members aren't traveling across the country to kick your butt in football.. >:(

Maybe the CIF should ask the ladies golf or soccer coach at Colquitt for advice. 9_9
