Georgia 7A.....Ohio Playoff Style

I've always wanted to apply the Harbin system to another state to see what it would look like. Because GA 7A only has 48 teams, I split it into 2 Regions of 24 teams with the top 16 making the playoffs.

Coming up with a geographic split was pretty hard, but I decided to go with West and East........I included the Region 1 teams in the East Region, and the Forsyth schools in the West Region.

"West" Region

1    38.64    Walton (10-0)

Wow I actually like the Ohio system.

It elimimates teams that really shouldnt be in...

The only bad part...

It creates alot of immediate rematches....

Example Brookwood just got done playing Norcross at home... they'd have to play them again right off the bat at Home...

Keep in mind that you could change the Regions if there was something that made more geographic sense.

Also keep in mind, in Ohio since 2013 there's 73 teams in D1.........prior to that, there were 119 teams in D1.  There's alot more teams missing the playoffs in Ohio D1.

Geographically... Camden would be east...

Lowndes is slightly eadtt...

Colquitt and Tift are west...

Pretty cool man... Look like an interesting way to do it. The East region got all the real contenders outside of Walton.

Very True.....I struggled with arranging the Regions because of that reason, but decided to go with geography/logic over handpicking the best ...........and that's just this year.....In a state like Georgia with true parity, this could even out any year.

You could also split into 4 Regions of 8 teams making the playoffs............Ohio is currently 4 Regions with 8 teams making playoffs, but there's 73 teams...

in 7A with only 48 teams, if you split into 4 Regions you'd have less of a chance of weeding out all of the really crappy teams.......

For 2013, 2014, and 2015 Ohio went to 2 Regions with 16 teams making the playoffs,..........and all the Top Teams loved it, because they weren't stuck with all of the Top teams in a Loaded Region, while the other Regions skated to the Semi's..........However, last year, most all the other teams wanted to return to 4 Regions, so we're back at 4 Regions.

WOW, THAT format would last about TEN SECONDS in Georgia! In THIS state, it's ALL about the MONEY! The MORE the MERRIER! How else do you splain our having 32 teams each, in EIGHT CLASSIFICATIONS?

Jist fer shits and giggles though! About half of our #1 and #2 seeds, miss the playoffs under your formula! And #3 seed Colquitt BARELY makes your playoff! A team that took two TOP TEN teams in the state to the end, before last second victories! You have an at large team in Marietta, who BARELY got in, as a #7!

For the most part, there is no ducking and hiding in D1 in Ohio.  You have to beat teams that actually go out and beat other teams.  If you can beat 3 teams that can get at least 7 wins, you are usually sitting pretty.  Moeller got in the Ohio playoffs this year because they beat a 9-1 St. Ignatius and and 8-2 Scott County, Kentucky.  Scott County is the number 2 team in Kentucky.  Moeller went 4-6 this season with some real ugly losses.

Happens in Louisiana a lot also...

I'd also hate to be the East side also...

For the sakes of balancing I can understand some of it...

But like I said:

West:

Tift

Colquitt

Cherokee

East:

Lowndes

Camden

Roswell
