Pew Study on Political Polarization

Interesting stuff.  Click on the below link. Look where Dems and Republicans were on the scale back in '94.

Now, click back to 2017.

It looks like a certain group has lurched in a particular political direction. In a manner that might be described as "extreme", though that is what they accuse their opposition of (very Goebbels-esque to accuse the other side of that which you do).

Thoughts?

Or holds strongly held convictions and values instead of being an easily led-by-the-nose sheeple.

Even you Concha have views that 'some' would consider 'liberal' ....

My comment was not about convictions...more about having 'extreme' views that you are 'convinced' are correct (while unable to see other sides)....'always on one side'  is a general indicator that you are never seeing the other sides point of view...

Being led by the nose is a different point....which 'personality type' is really being....." led-by-the-nose sheeple" ???

Bad candidate vs bad policies/ideology

Pick your poison

Party does NOT always = policies/ideology

As example Trump could be considered VERY 'Liberal' in MANY aspects....

I pick my poison as GOOD  'policies/ideology'........if your looking at 'bad' candidate then it sounds like you're already too caught up in 'party politics'....

Yes/No....but i understand $15 dollars an hour isnt gonna work

Wages were never supposed to be guaranteed to be "living wages".  They are basically entry level wages typically earned by teenagers. Only 2.7% of hourly workers make minimum or less. They are generally young and not the household's primary earner.

I go with the candidate available who most most closely reflects or espouses the policies I believe in.

That has never been the Democrat so far as I know, especially now given the huge "lurch" to the left they have taken as reflected by the Pew data I linked to.

""most closely reflects or espouses the policies I believe in.""

BINGO has been called....we have a winner! xD

In my voting history probably 80-90% republican 10-20% Independent or other....

Look at your chart tho....In 1994 ANY politician SHOULD be catering to the 'Purple' portion (if they want the largest 'pool' of voters).

As you say, flip back to Today......Who do you think they should they cater to now?

Struggling to see what you think is so entertaining.

The story here is that in 1994, the typical Dem and typical Pub were not far apart and were both pretty close to the middle.

Fast forward to 2017.  A slight move right for the average Republican.  The average Dem? Back flips and somersaults left versus 23 years ago. The average Dem is now where the loony fringe Dem was when Slick Willie was in his first term in office.

PS:  You seem to appreciate pandering vs. policy

What's entertaining is you trying to pick a debate where none exists...maybe you took offense to something stated?

I got your whole 'they politically shifted' more than we did argument.....charts and all xD...(time to chuck some spears LOL)

My 'thoughts' are essentially that your chart is a BETTER representation of each population's preferences shift to the more extreme on BOTH sides...

Just because you are having a hard time with your own insults today, and displayed your own position to be the more 'sheeple' than those you accuse (hint: your newest 'pandering' follows the same road), does not mean that you can just project what others appreciate.

No, I do not have to vote 'party line' when the party is 'wrong'.....sorry you don't feel the same way (since you like 'projection' so much)

Be a responsible adult and get or do what's needed to land a higher than minimum job.  Where you get the money is YOUR problem. Why the fuck should it me mine?

What a splendid display of a complete inability to reason.

The Republicans have shifted very little, but to you apparently all shifts are the same.

And I'm failing to see where sticking to beliefs I have had for decades makes me a sheeple. I haven't been led anywhere. You, however, appear to be the very definition of sheeple.
