ORabidOne
In tiny lil Cairo, Ga., there is a street named for one of their own athletes! And in a town that has produced the likes of greats, such as Bobby Walden, Bill Stanfill, and JACKIE ROBINSON! That street is named for the five time Olympic Gold Medalist, and UGA All American, Teresa Edwards!
SPFan1974
And there is a street name Martin Luther King Jr. in just about every city in the nation. What's your point?
SPFan1974
ORabidOne, I will elaborate. Ever heard of Trell Kimmons? He hails from Coldwater, MS and is part of a 2004 World Junior Championship Gold Medal team in the 4 x 100 meter relay, which established a world record time. Kimmons attended Hinds Community College, where he won three individual national championships (200 m outdoor in 2005, 60 m and 200 m indoor in 2006) and set national championship indoor meet records at 60 m and 200 m. At the 2010 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, he won a silver medal. I used to work on a Coldwater, MS businesses PC's, and they had a picture of themselves posing with him on their wall, but you should hear how they talked about black people. Claiming to be proud of someone from your hometown, and even naming a street after them does not mean you aren't racist, unfortunately.

But I expect nothing less from MS... to say that everyone there is like that would be a lie... But its MS Im already setting the bar pretty low... Not exactly getting my hopes to high... In all honesty, it's mostly the older generation in Mississippi. I find the newer generation to be much less racist, however, there are exceptions in every group. I am married to a woman who is from Belize, darker skinned and we have no issues. It's no worse than anywhere else on the surface, and I have traveled fairly well. Would be a lie to say it isn't there though.

Although its weird... Ive seen it from white people towards black people and from Black people to white people... And as a black man it makes me cringe... My ancestors/Grandparents went through it... I dont wanna go through it... and I dont wanna be like that to other people either. I'll never forget I once heard this kid say" They enslaved my ancestors when will we get revenge?" Revenge... really? No thats not the way. We cant fix the past. But we can learn from the mistakes that have been made and only hope that us and the future generations dont make the same mistakes. Getting "Revenge" as he called it wont fix shit... Let me tell you HS and College are weird its when you really start to discover more and more stuff about yourself... And other people...
