OOS games

I am curious about the rabid hunger for OOS games and the lack of respect shown teams that don't a) play out of state teams, b) play out of state teams but have the OOS team come to them.  I get the desire to see good games between good teams from all over the country.  While it might give some idea as to the relative strength of the programs playing each other *at that moment in time*, all the daisy chaining that goes on from these games is nothing short of ludicrous.  I also don't get the disdain for teams that play OOS teams but have the OOS team come to them.  If the desire is to get the game played, what difference does it make *where* it is played?

Flame away!

Oos games do have an extra added hysteria to them. They are very polarized.

A good example was when Euless Trinity,TX beat De La Salle,CA

it was a huge deal and the message board banter was furious. But Trinity ended up beating the Texas 6A Champ as well (North Shore)

But when Trinity lost in the 1st round and DLS won state it was chaos. It was a whole offseason of bashing DLS, bashing Cali, redeeming Aledo for getting killed by Bishop Amat etc etc.

But you didn't hear a peep about the North Shore game. Because no one cared because it was in state.

Home or away doesn't matter unless the game is close and the refs are killing the away team.

Dwyer/Glenville

Manatee/Bosco to name a few where the home refs impacted the game blantantly.

Last year STA was down 6-0 to Centennial,AZ when an obviously made up phamtom call extended a Centennial drive at the end of the game. Had that made up call never happened STA would have had one more possession to try and win. Instead Centennial gets a first down and then scores a meaningless TD at the last second.

That refs phantom call was the difference. That's the biggest issue with only having the games at your place. Not only does the traveling team have to go through a hassle of busses, planes, etc they have to deal with the refs as well.

Before the cross state games happened the message board that housed many of the national posters consisted of puffery based on hypothetical matchups between state powers. OOS matchups now give people who post on national boards a point of reference. It’s really only important to the fans here. It’s important to the fans of the local teams but only as a point of pride for the school, area and state. This is my opinion of it all of course. Without national games we’d all be howling how good our state is, but wouldn’t have the actual games to back it up. Makes for better board chatter in my opinion.

NJ has had some very good OOS games. Instead of having the NP play public schools these OOS games are needed

Such OOS games that were memorable for NJ imo were

BC vs BG 2x

BC vs Cocoa(what a performance by that cocoa team)

DBP vs DLS

DBP vs MV

SJR vs DeMatha

DBP vs St. Eds at Fordham

BC vs FCA(eddie goldman on FCA now a chicago bear what an athlete at his size)

DBP vs Manatee

BC vs Plant

DBP vs Prattville

Im sure I missed some but those are the ones right off the top of my head

ED finished #3 and #8 nationally those years despite the losses to the NJ teams.

Great wins for BC and SJR. I remember think St. Eds was going to crush BC that year. And when i heard BC pulled it out I was stunned. Great win. I guess because I wasnt there its not one that sticks in my head

So where would GA rank in your opinion in terms of top HS football states? And before you get all weird and try to think of a "cool" response, just remember this is a simple question that warrants a simple answer.

Slight correction... the phantom call was on a 3rd and 16 creating a 3rd and 1 and after the Florida 8th grade transfer to Zona broke through a frustrated and lazy tackling effort in short yardage D, it was game ova.   STA wouldn't have won anyway unless the punt returner went the distance, but would have been nice to witness at least for further frustration lol.

OOS is all we have on this forum basically.  Otherwise it's just in-state discussions primarily.  Homerism trolling adds to the intensity of OOS games on the forum.   Road warriors are appreciated, but any good OOS game is the goal even it means some schools enjoy the home cooking only... better that than no game.

Top 5, probably top 4. I thought OH and GA had a lot of similarities this year, but I think GA is grading out higher for me because of depth. If Delmarva was a state, it'd be up there too though.

Mission Viejo beating DBP had some New Jersey-ites melting down in a good ole pot of home cooking.

Watched that game.  There were some calls that could have gone either way, just like in any other game.  But they went ape shit about home cooking.  LOL.  There was no home cooking that night.  MV won fair and square.  GO DIABLOS!!!!!

I think the OOS Game is more for the pencil dicks in life truthfully.......much like the trump phenomenon.

Grayson beat Curtis last year in a hard-fought game, but I don't see that it proved anything other than Grayson was a couple plays better than Curtis at the end that day.

Same with 98% of these games.

It was the difference? STA didn’t score in the first 45 minutes but definitely would have scored in the last 3???

I would agree with you. I was going to say in the 5-7 range.

#4 or 5 annually swapping with OH depending on the season.

Big three will always be CA, FL and TX

You also can't ignore the fact that, over the past few years, Georgia has been trending upward as a whole in both talent and over-all number of quality teams.

Having said that, I wouldn't be all that comfortable with the "always" statement about the big three.
