Following conservative play call by Jeff Kearin, Loyola kicked a FG in OT. We had a great goal line stand in OT. Almost legendary. Hometown refs gave a generous 1st down spot at the 2 on 4th and inches. Mokhtar went in from a yard out on 4th and goal from the half yard line for a walk off TD. 19-16 final. 2. Barkley was not the difference in the OT win at The Dust Bowl. He was hit, hurried and hurled to the ground often and threw a pick. 86 total passing yards for the golden boy. The backup did throw 3 INTs in the semi final shutout win by Loyola, but who would figure Barkley would be better in a downpour? The difference in the rematch was Russ Oka at RB for Loyola (current OC for Crean Lutheran). This was when high school football looked like high school football... 1) Other than the Mission Viejo game, the Loyola game may have been Barkley’s worst during his freshman year. That said, his arm talent made it that Loyola couldn't completely sellout to stop Mohktar. Further, Barkley played much better as the season went on and looked his best in the quarter finals--just before breaking his collar bone. He showed then what he would become as a HS QB--a national player of the year. So it’s silly to act like him not playing in the semis didn't play a significant, if not deciding, role in Loyola going from losing to getting a shut out win in the rematch against a back up QB who never played a down after high school and threw 3 INTs. 2) Convenient that high school football last “looked like high school football”--i.e., was pure and good--when your team was on top. 3) A win is a win. Woulda coulda should, your boys got the ring. Congrats! (Sincerely.) I was more partial to the 2002/2003 Loyola squads. Really wanted MD to play them in the 2002 championship instead of Los Al after my big brother’s squad beat Poly in the semis. And, in 2003, I was there and rooting for the Cubs to hold it down for the Catholic schools at the then Home Depot Center.

Let’s be honest, Barkley never had much success against Loyola Dudes... 2. True. It’s be a minute since So Cal Preps have been “pure and good” as you said. It’s not about developing these student-athletes from young teens to young men over 4 years, it’s acquiring players to fill a role on a team to win games. It’s all about allocating your resources to win. Even if it means renting players. 3. No joke. We knew we were going to win the DI Championship in 2005 after beating Edison (Top Seed) and Poly lost to Servite on the same night. The bus ride back to Chapel from Huntington Beach was epic! We knew we were better than MD, especially as the home team. And, we expected to avenge the earlier 29-28 collapse to the Friars (DJ Shoemate wheel route TD with time expiring). The fact that Esperanza beat Servite was a shock. You like the 2003 team? Desean Jackson, Marvin Jones and Long Beach Poly checked by the Cubbies. Loyola was at the Top of So Cal Prep Football from 2000-2005. Honestly, the most talented squad was 2004. Horribly disappointing finish to that season. Especially with Steve Grady retiring the following spring. Coulda Woulda Shoulda...Loyola 3-straight titles from 03-05?! Legendary. That’s tough to do, even in today’s game.
HurricaneNick
Top CA sophomore’s at UCLA with Tom Lemming. Typical suspects. Not a tiny bear in sight. Ton of Monarchs. Hate that they are wearing the greys. Need to be in RED.
HurricaneNick
Darius curry is at Poly for now, with Nico transferring does he stay and miss the majority of reps for his junior year? The insiders say NO. 1 trinity league school stands out the most. I’ll let you guys figure it out who it is. A bunch of experts claim to know the deal. 🤷♂️

I see a lot of people hyping it up but both of the Central Catholics will lose by 5-6 TD minimum. In the other 3 games i think they are 21+ better then their opponent.

I’m hoping the bone crushing 50 defense mlb can win his league outright this year since the grass is so green over there!

Logistically it doesn't work. Just how it is. I know that disappoints many but it's true. MD and Cen10 are playing teams that can beat them. Bosco is not. Bosco is a 4 TD favorite in every pre-league game they play. Congrats to them for playing a shitty Texas, Hawaii, and Oregon team. Means nothing. Cen10 is stepping up per usual. MD goes to top (5) pre-season Gorman and plays top (8) Cen10 six days after that game. No surprise. Two top 10 teams before playing the #1 team in the country and they still aren't satisfied. If we wanted bye weeks we'd schedule Louisiana teams or lowends. Bosco is really talented this year, their pre-league schedule is bullshit. Allen? Is it 2013? Goodness gracious. Kahuku? Get real. I'm NOT saying MD has the greatest schedule of all time but damn it is better than Bosco's. Fact. Jason Negro scheduled nobody with arguably his most talented class. Ol' boy is trying to skate to a national title (weak preseason AKA spending 6 weeks to prep for MD) sad. It is what it is. Jason is dying to beat MD. He's lost em all since 2019.

HurricaneNick
Incoming freshman QB Cole Leinart picks up two Division 1 offers from Arizona and SMU today. The youth MD 7 on 7 team also won the trinity league title. Whatever that means. Not really interested in 8th grade passing league but there are a ton of studs coming in next month.
