HawgGoneIt
Yeah it's a sales pitch. We literally had to ban the guy from here for spamming his site repeatedly. We offered to allow him to post his link if he would just get on board with talking football with us along the way. Of course he posted an appreciate it and promptly started spamming again. Dude could be on here right now talking and proving his knowledge rather than us wondering whether his rankings are on the up and up. 1
HawgGoneIt
Pretty sure they are only ranking players that pay. They aren't out there openly evaluating talent. A person has to create a profile, request to be evaluated, and somewhere along the way, drop a credit card number. JOKE. 1 1
BUFORDGAWOLVES
Thanks, Hawgie @HawgGoneIt, I saw this on the GAVSV site, immediately noted the "pay for rankings" line and thought I'd throw it out on here for the litmus test. Regards, BufordGaWolves p.s. 247 should shut it down, I did see the 247 handle in a couple of places.

The pay to play aspect makes it a little distasteful. He was actively promoting a camp when he was spamming here. I think the s.t.e.p. rating stuff has been added since then. I think most people on here will tell you, if you are talented or your kid is, or whatever relationship you have to a college prospect... The real scouts will find you. Especially if you have a coach that will actively promote what you bring. There really isn't a need to let the scout trout guy have any of your treasure imo. Looks like he has separated quite a few kids/families from some of their treasure already though. He may find a niche in there getting marginalized kids an extra look for a few bucks. Who knows. 247 may be partnered with him in some way. Idk. I would assume that he is using their sites like he was trying to use ours though. It's everywhere and has filtered down to the 8th grades and lower. It is a real issue in just about every sport. Twitter, instagram, facebook talent/evaluate agents out there generating revenue. The "help" to the marginal player will get you in the door, that's about all it will get you.... These athletes have to earn every penny of that scholly, it ain't free. I think I'm gonna hang my shingle out on social media.... lol. Clearly, I'm in the wrong line of work. Regards BufordGaWolves

It's not just athletic promoting either. Academic sites/promotors like this scout trout guy are popping up as well. I remember when my son was a junior in h.s. we started getting bumper stickers and stuff. Proud Parent Of An N.H.S.S. Scholar. Checked in to the hooplah and it was a pay site like this guy. The promise was to basically market your kid to the various colleges that they were "in" with, for a price. Not saying that they don't do what they say, just saying it isn't necessary if you are actually a scholar. Just like scout trout isn't necessary if you are a talented prospect. I see the N.H.S.S. Scholar bumper stickers on quite a few cars around Moultrie now. I find myself wondering how many of them sent in a check or credit card. I hope none did.
94Packer
I think it laughable and a money grab. This guy is just trying to get a business going and pad hs pockets off of it. We get offers like this all the time and you have to read through them and research to see if they are legitimate. If the top players are unknown anywhere else it’s a tell tale sign. Everyone wants to get their child the maximum exposure but there are plenty of people line up to take your money. What I’ve come to rely on is 1. Are they associated with ESPN, Rivals, Nike, Adidas, 24/7, UA All American game, or Army all American game? If not you probably are throwing your money out the window. 2: who is running the organization and what’s their “pedigree” so to speak 3. What proven results do the have to tout. All camps and organizations with success will boast of the results. 4. As far as camps go is it position specific or a combine? The combines have a tendency to be a money grab too. Unless they offer position specific breakouts. When you have the large combines with a guest coach or 2from the major power 5 schools they already have an idea of who they want to evaluate. There may be 700-to 800 getting run through drills like cattle...... been there done that...... got the T-shirt to prove it. I think the best bet is to do research with a critical eye before passing out pesos. Only use organizations with a proven track record. Be realistic with expectations. Go with position specific organizations when it’s available. Twitter and Huddle are free and the are one of the best ways to promoting an athlete. If a kids has the skills and the game film to back it up..... the coaches will find them.

94Packer
The camps that really can make an impact for most players are the Nike opening regionals, the adidas three stripe camps, and the under armor all American combines: if you get an INVITE to one of these 3 jump on it. The specialists are a whole different matter college coaches for the most part don’t know how to coach and recruit specialists so the rely on a couple different organizations (Kohl’s Kicking and snapping) and (Sailer/Rubio kicking and snapping) for specialists it is more of a pay to play scenario, you have to have the skills to get the rankings from them and College coaches rely on their expertise. The rankings from these camps go a LONG way to recruiting. I’m going to attach a link for the class of 2018 rankings for Rubio and Kohl’s and you will be able to see all of the college commitment beside the players names. Kohl’s chooses the special it’s for the UA all American game, and the blue grey all American game, at their scholarship invite camp in June in Wisconsin. Rubio/ Sailer choose the specialists for the Army all American game at FBU in Rockhill SC in June. HawgGoneIt
I've been following up and checking on this since it arose this morning. The guy is not affilated with 247sports that I can find, but is using their platforms to spam his message and links much like he did here. I guess it's up to them how they let users operate on their sites. Found some stuff still there on a Texas board called "The Old Coach" from around the same time he was spamming here. They left it up. One poster posted in the thread and said it was a scam. https://247sports.com/high-school/texas/Board/106021/Contents/Was-my-10-year-Pro-indoor-career-worth-it-ScoutTroutcom-53593819 Merf Trout Ex-kicker for the Georgia Firebirds/Nebraska Danger Says his agent won't let him work for free anymore so he had to create an elaborate site to separate you from your treasure. 🤡 Their Facebook page has a mix of comments. Everything from "it's a scam" , "we paid 300 dollars for our son to play in his supposed all American game and the jersey was cheap...etc..." to "they work hard for your kid. Five stars."

HawgGoneIt
We use adsense here to maintain enough of an income to keep this website free to it's members and low out of pocket cost to operate for the owner. Adsense generally frowns on a website allowing free advertising for others while getting paid by them. We sometimes allow members to get or give a shout out to a website by sharing a link, but, these members are normally active here in football conversation involving high school football so they have earned the trust and leeway that they are sharing a link to a website that is of interest to what we are discussing here. Almost never would we allow links to websites that are selling services to our members or readers unless some of us had a brilliant experience with said website and it was very trusted by us, and/or paying for their bandwith usage via adsense. The particular group/website in question here in this thread hasn't done anything of value for prepgridiron.com, offered any payment in exchange for using our bandwidth or even attempted to be a slightly active member in order to earn any trust. Quite frankly, they have done totally the opposite by continually violating our guidelines for attempting to gain free advertising any and every time they have been active here at all. Edit: I have removed links to their website from this thread and numerous other threads as they continue guerilla advertising techniques on prepgridiron.com 1
