abbatt
With the new Season starting soon......most states will be entering the Pre-season Inter-team scrimmages mode....but not Illinois. It`s not allowed in our State. So the first several games are basically the scrimmages for our teams. i believe it seriously hurts when playing tough OOS opponents. The scrimmages help teams to work on some very important aspects of the game against someone other than their own DEF and OF.Fundamentals like 2 minute drills....Special teams....timing....execution can be refined and sharpened to help get ready for the regular season.. Illinois teams basically have to learn these things in real game situations. It certainly helps the Coaching staffs as well. Plus I think that the scrimmages help to build excitement for the up-coming season. The nay-sayers may claim that it can lead to unnecessary injuries. If your State didn`t allow these scrimmages ...how do you think it would impact your favorite teams ? Would it be detrimental...or would it not have much of an impact either way ? And what do you feel are the pluses that are gained by these scrimmages ?
golfaddict1
STA has done dead ball special teams kickoff classics (preseason game) with Dillard in recent years and last year opted not to play a practice game and scrimmage in-house... and they've focused on limiting physical contact as much as possible in the last 3-4 years, utilizing tackle dummy robots as an example (Dartmouth started, NFL teams use now). In the last 2 seasons they got home OOS wins, one a tight OT game vs SJB and last year a comfortable win vs. DeMatha. 2016 the finish vs BTW was a clusterfuck.... game mgt. was awful as they couldn't properly engage in a spike ball down after the receiver was called down at the inches line with a good 30 seconds or so left. Instead, the QB with a 5 wideout setup from the previous first down conversion and at the inches line tossed a hail mary jump ball. Chaos prevailed in that finish. This year I believe they opted for no kickoff classic game and just practice in-house before traveling to Cali. Safety at a premium, whether right or wrong at this extreme, that's the deal at STA preseason and all-season. They also don't play spring football games vs opponents and opt for intrasquad scrimmages with restrictions.
