You do some active and a couple forms of reserve. Total of 8 years obligation when you sign your enlistment contract, they have you for 8. Some are active, plus inactive ready reserve time. Not to make fun of Marines as my cousin is active marines but when I took my asvab the kid next to me got so low of a score he couldn't even be infantry and you need like a 30 on the test to at least qualify for that. I went to officer field training at McClellan AFB (1987)and navigator training at Mather AFB (1990... didn't finish though) ..both closed of course.
