HONOLULU – The players kicked off practices for the 2019 Polynesian Bowl on Tuesday on the field inside Aloha Stadium where they'll face off in an all-star affair Saturday night.

About midway through the two-hour workout, Team Makai held a spirited session of one-on-one battles between its offensive and defensive linemen that would have impressed honorary captain Haloti Ngata.

Oklahoma bound offensive guard EJ Ndoma-Ogar was a standout in the battles and, to go along with his work in live drills, was pegged as the practice's Alpha Dog on Day 1. He was stout as a run blocker and showed off his technique in head-to-head matchups, stonewalling defensive linemen and holding his ground against the pass rushers. Whether it was speed or power moves, the four-star prospect from Allen, Texas, handled whatever opponents threw his way.

Diwan Black is a boss.

OLB Diwun Black

Despite being one of the last players to arrive on the island Monday night due to lengthy travel, Black was one of the most active and energetic players in practice. He chased down ball carriers in the flats, got after the quarterback off the edge and covered well. He is committed to Florida and told 247Sports the Gators will get his only official visit prior to signing day.
