DarterBlue Posted October 3, 2020 Report Share Posted October 3, 2020 So, my son who resides in China and has not lived in the USA for more than 5 months since 2010 received a letter from the IRS yesterday (in my mailbox). I send him a message asking for permission to open it. My best guess was that they were inquiring as to why he had not filed a tax return the past nine years when he was not being claimed as a dependent by anyone. That would actually be a very good question to ask, don't you think? Well lo and behold, the letter was to notify him that he may qualify for a stimulus check of $1,200 but that the deadline for claiming it expires October 15, 2020. It went on to explain how he could file a claim if he though he was entitled to it. This is comedic in the extreme. He is registered with the US embassy in Shanghai. Don't these government agencies share data with each other? Clearly since he has not earned a dime on US shores or lived here since 2010, it should be obvious that he does not qualify for the stimulus payment. A more relevant question on their part should have been is he due the IRS taxes on his foreign earned income? He isn't, but it should certainly be worth the ask and an inquiry. No he won't. He ain't missing a meal. Why should he take chump change he is not entitled to? All US administrations in this century to date have run up the debt. The only difference with Trump is that he has no frigging excuse since the economy was booming till Covid-19 came along. You are just a damned tool!
