Ohio Week 5

All the ranked teams held serve this week, but not without some drama for #1 St. Edward who survived a trip to the Pit (the location of their last loss with such a lofty national ranking back in 2014).  The gap at the top appears closer than at any point this season.

1. St. Edward (#1, beat Elder 34-33) - Ed's defense looked vulnerable for the first time this season, having no answer for the QB run against Elder. Atypical game from the LB's who could not get good reads on where the ball was going or get off blocks. Over 100 yards in penalties, including a few of the unsportsman variety. A repeat performance will almost certainly spell doom in Tiger Town this week, and the Eagles may be without QB1 Casey Bullock who left the game with some sort of lower extremity injury. @ #3 Massillon on 9/15

2. Hoban (#2, beat Akron East 39-0) - Kudos to Akron East for having the stones to schedule this game, but a drubbing was never in doubt. The Knights will travel to Euclid this week to take on a reeling Ignatius team who suffered another loss this week at the hands of Fitch in a double OT affair. Hoban should handle this version of the Cats with ease, but they always seem to tense up a bit when playing the D1 big boys. @ Ignatius on 9/15.

3. Massillon (#3, beat Elkhart (IN) 55-0) - The Tigers have to be licking their chops after seeing what transpired in Cincinnati this week. In that same token, they haven't faced anyone with a pulse the past few weeks and the physicality that Ed's will bring in this game is a major step up. Massillon is still employing both QB's, and while Slaughter has had success in the previous meetings against Ed's, the mobile Owens may be the hot hand they ride if Ed's can't stop the QB runs. vs. #1 St. Edward on 9/15.

4. TCC (#4, beat Brother Rice (MI) 33-7) - The Irish having been making quick work of the competition up in Michigan so far and show no signs of letting down. vs. De La Salle Collegiate (MI) on 9/15

5. Avon (#5, beat Elyria 42-6) - Handled Elyria as expected. Big Southwestern Conference showdown this week as they go on the road to take on an undefeated North Ridgeville team who just knocked off undefeated Olmsted Falls. @ North Ridgeville on 9/15

6. Pick North (#6, beat Pick Central 39-34) - The Panthers finally knock off their nemesis in the battle of Pickerington, but it wasn't easy. The rest of the schedule sets up nicely and they should be undefeated heading into a week 10 matchup with Gahanna-Lincoln. @ Reynoldsburg on 9/15.

7. Glenville (#7, beat John Adams 36-0) - The Tarblooders could have named their score in this one, but let off the gas against an overmatched Senate League opponent. Big chance to make a statement this week in a premier national game as they head to Florida to take on IMG. Keeping it within a couple TD's would count as a win in my book, but I honestly don't see that happening. @ IMG Academy (FL) on 9/15.

8. Gahanna-Lincoln (#8, beat Reynoldsburg 49-6) - No-doubter of a game against an overmatched Reynoldsburg. Biggest test of the year so far awaits this week as they go on the road against a Pick Central team looking to rebound. They could make a jump back over Pick North with a convincing win. @ Pick Central on 9/15.

9. Princeton (#10, beat Mason 20-3) - Solid win over Mason on the road as the Viking defense continues to impress. vs. Hamilton on 9/5.

10. Winton Woods (#9, beat Turpin 20-0) - Drop another spot this week with another less than impressive offensive performance. Thought about putting Elder here after what they have showed against Ed's this past week and Pick North a few weeks back. The Panthers could easily be 4-0 with a few bounces of the ball. WW has another patty-cake this week, but has a better chance to impress in the coming weeks with Anderson (3-1), Kings (3-1) and Milford (4-0) all in a row. vs. Little Miami on 9/15

Others: Elder, X, Olentangy, Cleveland Heights, Hudson, Moeller, Lakota West, Riverside, Chardon, Canton McKinley, Walsh Jesuit, Centerville, Pick Central, Trotwood-Madison, Hilliard Davidson

The lack of a threat to run from the QB is allowing Massillon to be a lot more aggressive up front in terms of attacking the LOS. Id like to see a better effort up front as well, but they are up against it right now.  Csanyi can throw pretty well though, and I think we need to attack the short middle of the field more off of play action. On the defensive side, have to quit guessing, stay home, and make tackles. Too much guessing and diving at ankles. Two weeks in a row of subpar play from Gregory, a guy who is known for his read/run/react. Best game from Thomas so far

Like to see a sideline pump then throw down field and maybe a wheel route

Gregory taking bad angles
