RedZone
Frank Wilson (NOLA) who took over the USTA program in 2016 may have landed the schools highest rated recruit ever. 4* LB Kelin Burrie (Helen Cox, NOLA) committed to the USTA Roadrunners a couple weeks ago. Burrie is the #1 rated prospect in Louisiana in the 2020 class and the #5 rated LB nationally. Man, if that holds good for Frank Wilson. Frank Wilson is a legend in NOLA and a hell of a recruiter.......Burrie has some big time offers including LSU. Kelin Burrle https://247sports.com/Player/Kelin-Burrle-46052138 Frank Wilson era (2016–present) In January 2016, Frank Wilson was hired as UTSA's second ever head coach, replacing Larry Coker. Wilson helped lead the Roadrunners to their first bowl game in program history, the 2016 New Mexico Bowl. On September 9, 2017, UTSA had a landmark 17-10 victory over Baylor which gave UTSA its first ever victory over a Power Five team. On 26 April 2018, Roadrunner DE Marcus Davenport was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Davenport was the 14th overall pick. UTSA plays their home games at the Alamodome.

Nolebull813
I was in San Antonio in 2016 one week and caught a game at the Alamodome. They were playing a bad team so couldn't get a good gauge, but the crowd was into it. There was excitement around the team. Pretty good tailgating and overall energy for a crap opponent. I'm sure it was a lot better playing better teams. Good for them. National Champ coach Larry Coker laid the foundation for coach Wilson. If UTSA has a solid year you can bet anything Wilson will be moving up the coaching ranks
Nolebull813
Off topic but I been to 5 different Texas games. Been to a UTSA game as well as Baylor, TCU, SMU and Texas A+M home games. Home team went 4-1 with TAMU getting pounded by Auburn last year. Lol
RedZone
Frank gonna turn it all around........gotta get players first! The 7 toughest starts in college football in 2018 http://www.fbschedules.com/2018/06/the-7-toughest-starts-college-football-2018/ UTSA First three: at Arizona State (Sept. 1), Baylor (Sept. 8), and at Kansas State (Sept. 15) The last of the three teams to kick off 2018 with three consecutive Power opponents, UTSA, like BYU, doubles-up with two road games. The Roadrunners didn’t field a football team until 2011. Since then, they’re 0-4 vs. the Pac-12 and 1-4 vs. the Big 12. Their 17-10 win at Baylor last season is their only-ever win vs. a Power conference member. UTSA also opened the 2015 season with three straight big boys, losses at (22) Arizona, vs. Kansas State, and at (25) Oklahoma State.

That’s a big time prospect for UTSA it Would be interesting to do some sort of research on whether that hurts a kid, helps him, or isn’t definitive either way on a (ie) 4- to 5-Star guy making next level (ie Being THE MAN at UTSA or one of the guys at LSU it Bama)
RedZone
It has more to do with HC Frank Wilson and what he is trying to build at UTSA. Kids like him. USTA just had a first round NFL pick. If you can play you can play. Frank Wilson LSU Prior to taking the UTSA job, Wilson had been running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisiana State University under head coach Les Miles since 2010. Wilson had also served as the associate head coach for the Tigers. In 2011, Rivals.com named Wilson the National Recruiter of the Year. In 2014, NFL.com named Wilson the top recruiter in all of college football. In 2015, Scout.com honored Wilson as the SEC Recruiter of the Year. In 2015, LSU secured a Top 5 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. The achievement marked the first time since 2002–03 that LSU finished with back-to-back Top 5 recruiting classes in America. From 2011–2014, 29 LSU Tigers have been selected in the NFL Draft which ranks second to Alabama (30)
Nolebull813
Robert Griffin III went to Baylor before any prestige hit the program. He was a 4 star stud and had offers to all the national top 15 teams. He signed with Baylor who was coming off a 3-9 season. He played all 4 years with back to back 4-8 seasons, followed by a 7-6 and then 10-3 Heisman year. I think track something to do with it too. Baylor has a great track program. But he is a good example of spurning the top dogs for the less quality team. And it paid off ten fold
