Don't think any Colerain players left except for Bolden' s son. Here's some quick thoughts: 1 - It's week 1 and obviously both teams need to clean a lot of things up. To be expected in Week 1. 2 - Both teams surprisingly looked better than I expected. The difference between the scrimmages was night and day IMO (at least for Colerain.) 3 - Colerain's offense looked more competent than they did in preseason. They had a few moments of brilliance and classic Colerain grinding drives, but also many moments of missed assignments and plays getting blown up. This mostly run-option offense will struggle against the better defenses they play. 4 - Colerain's D front 7 had a big size advantage and completely dominated the Wayne OLine. They were unrelenting with pressure and had 7 sacks. Wayne decided they weren't going to try run much against them and stuck to an almost exclusively passing offense. Colerain left a lot of the middle open because of the pressure they were bringing, and Wayne had most of their offense on passes over the middle. 5 - Wayne's QB Fancher is a special player and the rest of Wayne's skill players are all very good too. Wayne's OLine was their weak spot and Fancher was running for his life the whole game. Still Fancher made numerous great throws under intense pressure and kept many plays alive with his feet. Wayne's offense should be very good this year and they should score a lot of points. 6 - Overall I was pleasantly surprised. The Colerain offense was competent enough to make plays when needed, and let the Defense do it's thing....The Colerain D front 7 will be a serious problem for every team they play. They need to tighten up the secondary, but most teams won't have a QB, RB, and WR's as capable as Wayne's.

For what it’s worth, PC played about as poorly as possible the first half but still won. PC had opening game jitters while Winter Park had a game under their belt. PC committed 3 first half turnovers, two that gave WP the ball in PC territory and a 3rd when PC was inside WP’s 20 going in for a score. PC also had a kid drop a potential big pass that would have resulted in a big gain, possibly a TD, and had 3 big plays (2 TDs) called back by penalties. At one point PC had a first down at WP’s 30 and then proceeded to have 4 penalties in 5 plays that led to a 3rd & 24. PC trailed 13-0 at the end of the first quarter and 21-17 at half, but won 34-21. They held WP scoreless and I think without a first down in the 2nd half. PC took a knee at WP’s 15 to end the game. PC kept pounding the ball between the tackles and wore WP down. PC had one back go over 100 yds and another have approximately 80 yds. Plus the QB ran for about 50 yds and threw for 100+ and a TD.

Mentor & Hoban should beat them but who knows still too early big one with Colerain & X waiting for a team in Cinci area to make a move week 4 Eds/Elder could be a good one. Definitely going to that one.

Iggys at Mentor X at Colerain Thx as always! If Mentor beat St. Ed's away from home, they should beat St. Ignatius AT HOME. X has (much needed ) new OC (Coverdale from Lou. Trinity). Saw some very positive things in first game. But this is a true rivalry game, at Colerain (where they lose once or twice a decade). A real toss-up. Picking X by 3 or less.
