1. Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Calif. (9-0)
Previous rank: 2.
In the Huddle: The Monarchs are back atop the CAC Top 25 after defeating then-No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower), 38-24. A dominant offense and turnovers were key ingredients fueling coach Bruce Rollinson’s squad. The Monarchs were flagged for 10 penalties but kept SJB out of the end zone from four downs inside the 10-yard line with five minutes left and went on to win it.

Clemson-bound QB Bryce Young accounted for five TDs, including a pair on the ground. Young gave his team a 38-17 lead on a 7-yard run heading into the fourth quarter. The Monarchs wasted little time in the first taking a 14-3 lead when Young scored from the 1 and hooked up with WR Kody Epps for a 51-yard scoring strike. The duo connected again in the second quarter, extending the lead to 21-3. Epps caught 10 balls for 160 yards and three TDs. The Monarchs finish the regular season with a home date versus JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) Friday.

2. St. John Bosco, Bellflower, Calif. (8-1)

In the Huddle: Lost to then-No. 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana), 38-24. QB DJ Uiagalelei hit on 16 of 29 passes for 283 yards and two TDs with one interception. The Braves never led but still had a chance to pull within seven points at 5:01 left in the game. However, a drive stalled inside the Mater Dei 10. The Braves were down 24-10 at halftime as a late turnover led to a Mater Dei field goal and 14-point hole. Logan Loya figured prominently in Bosco’s early scoring with a field goal, extra-point and 8-yard TD pass from Uiagalelei, reducing the deficit to 21-10. Hard to believe, but the regular season ends this Friday against Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita).

3. St. Thomas Aquinas, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (8-0)
Previous rank: 3.
In the Huddle: Shut out Fort Lauderdale, 42-0. The Raiders have allowed just 73 points in eight games. RB Jaeden Henry rushed for two TDs and Philjae Bien-aime added another when Aquinas did all the scoring in the first half. The Raiders bagged the District 14-7A title and now close out the regular season versus Western (Davie) Friday.

4. Saint Louis School, Honolulu, Hawaii (9-0)
Previous rank: 4.
In the Huddle: Idle. The Crusaders play Punahou (Honolulu) Friday in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Open Division final.

5. St. Frances Academy, Baltimore, Md. (8-1)
Previous rank: 5.
In the Huddle: The Panthers started fast and went on to beat St. Thomas More (Oakdale, Conn.), 40-13. The Panthers scored 21 points in the first quarter and 10 more in the second for a commanding 31-0 edge at intermission. Next is Clarkson Football North (Mississauga, Ontario) Saturday.

6. St. Peter’s Prep, Jersey City, N.J. (8-0)

In the Huddle: QB Tahj Bullock passed for three TDs lifting the Marauders over Pope John XXIII (Sparta), 41-0. It was 28-0 at halftime and coach Rich Hansen’s team coasted in the second half to record the shutout. George Rooks recovered a fumble for a score. The regular season closes out Saturday with league heavyweight St. Joseph Regional (Montvale) visiting Caven Point in Jersey City. The New Jersey Non-Public Group 4 playoffs start the weekend of Nov. 8-9.

7. De La Salle, Concord, Calif. (8-1)
Previous rank: 7.
In the Huddle: Idle. The Spartans face Clayton Valley Charter (Concord) Friday in the regular-season finale.

8. Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas, Nev. (8-1)
Previous rank: 8.
In the Huddle: The Gaels scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters and blanked Spring Valley (Las Vegas), 56-0. RBs Ikaika Ragsdale and Jadyn Ott each rushed for a pair of TDs. The regular season ends Friday with Clark (Las Vegas).

9. Salpointe Catholic, Tucson, Ariz. (8-0)
Previous rank: 9.
In the Huddle: The Lancers exploded for four TDs in the opening period and crushed Catalina Hills (Tucson), 49-0, for their second straight shutout. Texas-bound RB Bijan Robinson carried eight times for 151 yards and four scores. Sophomore QB Treyson Bourget completed 8 of 10 passes for 147 yards and two TDs to WR Lathan Ransom. The regular season ends Friday with Vista Grande (Casa Grande).

10. St. Edward, Lakewood, Ohio (8-1)
Previous rank: 10.
In the Huddle: QB Conor O’Malley accounted for three TDs and the Eagles crushed Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati), 34-7. O’Malley targeted Montorie Foster for two TD passes and scampered 15 yards for another score. The Eagles finish the regular season hosting National Christian Academy (Fort Washington, Md.) Friday. Additionally, they are firmly in the Ohio Division I, Region 1 playoffs. The pairing will be announced after this weekend’s games.

11. Archbishop Hoban, Akron, Ohio (8-1)
Previous rank: 11.
In the Huddle: The Knights doubled up Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls), 42-21. The victory means Hoban clinched a first-round home game in the Division II, Region 5 playoffs. Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, RBs De’Vonta Baskerville and Victor Dawson each rushed for two TDs. Both players wound up with three TDs apiece, including Dawson’s 61-yard scoring connection from junior QB Shane Hamm. The Knights were up 28-14 at the break. The regular season wraps up Friday at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (Chardon).

12. St. Joseph’s Prep, Philadelphia (6-2)

In the Huddle: The Hawks crushed Archbishop Ryan (Philadelphia), 65-7, clinching the Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division in style by tallying 42 points in the first quarter. Junior QB Kyle McCord threw for scoring passes of 11, 43 and 10 yards in the opening period. Noble House scored two TDs, going 47 yards on the ground and then 43 yards on a pass play. The Hawks face Father Judge (Philadelphia) Friday in Class AAAAAA Philadelphia Catholic League semifinals.

13. Covington Catholic, Park Hills, Ky. (10-0)
Previous rank: 13.
In the huddle: QB Caleb Jacob clicked on 13 of 21 passes for 305 yards and four scores, and the Colonels closed out a perfect regular season defeating Conner (Hebron), 45-7. RB Michael Boydston rushed for two TDs while Notre Dame-bound Michael Mayer and Ethan Reardon each nabbed a pair of TD receptions. The defense allowed 61 points in 10 games. The Kentucky Class 5A playoffs start on Nov. 8.

14. McGill-Toolen Catholic, Mobile, Ala. (9-0)

In the Huddle: It was a memorable night in Alabama. First, the Yellow Jackets clubbed Baker (Mobile), 42-14. RB CJ Evans totaled 319 yards of offense and tallied two TDs during the program’s 500th all-time win. The victory also iced the Class 7A, Region 1 title. The Jackets play Fairhope Friday and then await who they will play in the Alabama Class 7A playoff opener.

15. De Smet Jesuit, St. Louis, Mo. (9-0)

In the Huddle: Six different players scored TDs and the Spartans drilled previously unbeaten Helias (Jefferson City), 49-3. RB Tahj Butts carried 11 times for 140 yards, including a 65-yard TD jaunt, and QB AJ Fraser passed and ran for scores. Missouri’s top-ranked Class 6 team rolled to a 49-0 lead before the visitors kicked a late field goal. Next is Pattonville (Maryland Heights) in the Class 6 district first round Friday.

16. Mount Carmel, Chicago, Ill. (9-0)

In the Huddle: The Caravan captured the Chicago Catholic League Blue Division title and posted the program’s eighth undefeated regular season, bouncing Brother Rice (Chicago), 28-13. RB Kenenna Odeluga rushed for two TDs and junior QB Justin Lynch ran for one and passed to Jaali Parker for another. Next is the Class 7A first round against Eisenhower (Blue Island) this weekend.

17. Nazareth Academy, La Grange Park, Ill. (9-0)^
Previous rank: 18.
In the Huddle: Coach Tim Racki successfully led Nazareth to the Chicago Catholic League Orange Conference championship, throttling, Benet Academy (Lisle), 27-8. Now it’s time to defend their Class 7A state title and that begins this weekend, entertaining Libertyville in the first round. The Roadrunners could face Catholic League brethren No. 16 Mount Carmel (Chicago) in the 7A final.

18. O’Dea, Seattle, Wash. (8-0)
Previous rank: 19.
In the Huddle: The Metro League champions stopped Garfield (Seattle), 35-7. The Fighting Irish won’t play again until Nov. 8 or 9 in the Class 3A playoffs.

19. Catholic, Baton Rouge, La. (8-0)
Previous rank: Not ranked.
In the Huddle: The Bears are back in the CAC Top 25 for the first time this campaign after dispatching St. Amant, 56-12. The win gave coach Gabe Fertitta’s team the inside track to the District 5-5A championship. QB Jackson Thomas hit on 7 of 10 passes for 133 yards and two scores. The Bears are currently No. 2 in Louisiana’s Class 5A rankings. Next is crosstown rival Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) Thursday.

20. Gonzaga, Washington, D.C (8-1)
Previous rank: 20.
In the Huddle: The Eagles hammered Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.), 49-21. After this weekend’s late-season bye, the Eagles close it out at St. John’s College (Washington) on Nov. 9.

21. Eastside Catholic, Sammamish, Wash. (7-1)
Previous rank: 21.
In the Huddle: Defeated Bishop Blanchett (Seattle), 42-7. The Crusaders have a weekend off before the Class 3A playoffs begin on the weekend of Nov. 8-9.

22. Archbishop Rummel, Metairie, La. (8-0)
Previous rank: 22.
In the Huddle: The Raiders fell behind by 12 points early in the first quarter but the defense came to rescue to defeat St. Augustine (New Orleans), 16-12. The Raiders pulled within 12-9 before junior Logan Diggs sped 38 yards for the winning score. RB Jaelen Sturgis added a 4-yard TD ran in the first frame. Next is a district showdown with Louisiana’s top-ranked Class 5A team, John Curtis Christian (River Ridge), Friday.

23. Cathedral Catholic, San Diego, Calif. (8-1)
Previous rank: 23.
In the Huddle: Idle. Next is Lincoln (San Diego) Friday. After that it’s the CIF-San Diego Section playoffs.

24. DeMatha Catholic, Hyattsville, Md. (6-2)
Previous rank: 24.
In the Huddle: The Stags regained their mojo with the playoffs in just over a week after defeating then-No. 25 Good Counsel (Olney, Md.), 30-17. It was 17-0 at halftime before Good Counsel rallied to make it 24-17 in the fourth quarter. That’s when RB Marshawn Lloyd blasted off for a 90-yard TD, his third of the game, to seal it. Next is the regular season finale at St. John’s College (Washington, D.C.) Saturday.

25. Iona Prep, New Rochelle, N.Y. (8-0)
Previous rank: Not ranked.
In the Huddle: The Gaels navigated a difficult schedule, posting an undefeated regular season and beat Cardinal Hayes (Bronx), 58-41. With the win, the Gaels earned a bye in the NYCHSFL Class AAA playoffs, meeting Cardinal Hayes or St. Anthony’s (Melville) on Nov. 8 or 9 in the semifinals.

Would have been nice if the John Curtis game with McGill-Toolen Catholic hadn't fell through this year....it was all set for the BOB.
