Catholic-BR vs IMG Academy in Baton Rouge

Hmmm, haven't been making the high school football rounds much lately, but see that Catholic-BR will war with IMG Academy.....probably isn't going to work out very well for Catholic. I guess they get a "credit" for trying. Not sure how much football will played this year though, if any,........but it's scheduled.

Football Bears Up The Ante In 2020 Campaign

The Catholic High School Football Program released its schedule for the 2020 season. Comprised of 10 regular season games, the Bears will face some familiar and not so familiar opponents.

The Bears open the 2020 campaign on the road playing crosstown rival Parkview Baptist before hosting nationally ranked IMG Academy out of Bradenton, FL, in week two. This will make the first time IMG has played a high school football game in the state of Louisiana. “In keeping with our vision for the program, we wanted to continue giving our young men the opportunities to compete at the highest level,” said CHS Head Football Coach Gabe Fertitta. “IMG Academy is one of the top prep programs in the country, and it will be an incredible opportunity and test for our players.”

In week three, the Bears host the 2018 Division II State Champion University High and round out the pre-district schedule with contests against 2019 Class 4A State Champion Edna Karr and 2019 Division II State Champion St. Thomas More.

As the Bears begin district play, they will be defending their 2019 District 5-5A Championship with matchups against East Ascension, McKinley, St. Amant, Woodlawn and Dutchtown. “We look forward to testing ourselves again this year with one of the toughest schedules in the state of Louisiana,” noted Fertitta.

Kind of interesting game. I guess that's the case any time someone schedules IMG to some extent, but, this year has IMG with a new head coach.

Kind of early in the season which in normal times could be a help for Catholic.

Catholic does a lot of stuff really well most every year. They are well coached, solid kicking game and special teams, but they just ain't got that kind of IMG talent walking around their campus. They might pick up a transfer or two, but IMG is a different animal.

Maybe Catholic can keep it close for a half, catch a break here and there.

The Catholic Bears do have an impressive student section though. One of the best if not best in the state.

Catholic needs to play teams like Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco, St Xavier,  Elder,  McGill Toolen, Brentwood Academy and those "types"....they look like those guys most years.

Live and learn, I guess.
