Mentor vs. St. Edward - Mentor 24 St Edward 23

Mentor beat a solid Euclid team 27-12 last week. On the back of QB Kipp, Mentor was able to spread the ball around to 4 different WR's and pick up some yards on the ground in the absence of their injured RB. The Mentor defense played classic bend but dont break, as Euclid was able to move the ball between the 30's.

Eds had a rough game overall as Hoban put a running clock on them 35-0. Hoban started strong with 2 quick scores and after many Ed's turnovers, including a pick 6, Hoban was far ahead. Eds offense will take some time to come together, but their defense seems to be in a good spot,  despite the last game.

Ill take Mentor in a close game, because I really like the leadership and experience of Kipp.

Elder vs St. X - St. X 27 Elder 21

Elder hammered Floyd Central IN last week 42-14. Didn't really learn much about where Elders at, but have heard that Elder is big on the line again and have another solid QB and WR's. Their defense is mediocre at best.

X had a nice win, beating La Salle 24-10. The X offense looks pretty solid, as does their defense. They didnt blow this game with turnovers and stupid play calls.

This game should be good. These GCL games can be unpredictable. I think X wins a close game

Colerain vs Princeton - Colerain 21 Princeton 14

Colerain played Oak Hills and won 30-0. Oak Hills looked much improved under new Head coach/former Colerain assistant coach Justin Roden. The Colerain Defense played strong holding Oak Hills to something like -30 yds rushing. Oak Hills made some good plays through the air, and most of their improvement came from fundamentals and offensive schemes. Colerains offense went mostly with Prather at QB, and for the most part moved the ball well all night. Penalties killed 3 drives, and there werent tons of possessions,  but Prather looked much more comfortable this week. Part of this is because Oak Hills isnt very good on defense. It will be interesting to see how they look vs a good defense.

Princeton has started 2-0 with 2 close wins vs Hamilton and Sycamore. Princeton has a good sized OLine and a good QB , RB, and WR. They are solid on defense too. While not as stout as last years Princeton D, they have some good talent to cause offenses some troubles.

This is a great game to figure out where both teams are at. Given Colerain's struggles on offense, this should be a close lower scoring  game. Ill go with Colerain to win off of some Princeton turnovers.

Have to agree on the Ed’s/Mentor game after what I’ve seen through two weeks. Eagles competition has been much better, but the offense is just not there yet. Kipp has been a thorn in their side for three years now against better versions of Ed’s. His comfort in the Mentor offense and an experienced offensive line will probably be the difference. Mentor also very strong on the defensive line. Ed’s run game has been pedestrian compared to years past, and they traditionally rely on a strong run game to open up the passing game with big shots downfield. Ed’s defense will still be without Bixby, leaving them susceptible on the edge if Kipp is forced outside of the pocket.

We’ll see if Lombardo forges ahead with his offense or makes adjustments. The young QB needs some confidence throws. Let him get rid of the ball quickly with some underneath routes. Euclid had success moving the ball outside of the red zone. Granted they have some big time athletes at the skill positions, Mentors back seven can be exploited.

With the veteran QB and strong lines on both sides, I’ll go with Mentor 27, Ed’s 20. Eagles should be able to limit the big plays (as long as Kipp doesn’t get loose in the run game), but the Mentor offense will take small chunks consistently enough to control the clock and put points on the board.

Wow you & Coletrain have it close while I see it different like Mentor 31/35-17.

Other than the score I would like to see some statistical wins for the Eagles as they try to close the gap between them and a contender.

Offensively can they sustain a drive? Can the line protect the young QB? Will they throw some quick hitters over the middle? Where is Brady Bostwick?  Is he hurt? Can they use one of the Castleberry's at WR although they will have their hands full on D.

Defensively without Bixby is a big loss. Puts too much pressure on Hankins to play out of position opening up the middle to the short passes.

Hopefully I am wrong but Eagles need to win the LOS and get some turnovers to be competitive in this one.

Colerain loses to Princeton in a weird game.

Colerain offense scores 37. Colerain defense gives up 41 to Princeton.

Colerain up a couple scores in the 4th, look to be cruising to a win and a very clear holding call is missed on a Princeton bomb. This turned the tides. A handful of big play conversions later in the 4th and all of a sudden Princeton pulls ahead with almost no time left.

Dont think Colerain took the threat seriously enough until Princeton hit the bomb at the end of the game.

@Coletrain06 Who’s your #1 in OH? PC or AH?

Hard to say now with Hoban hanging on to beat a talented Benny D3 squad tonight 31-24.
was Hoban victory last week a perfect storm! Were they overconfident tonight against Benny’s . Ed’s plays Benny’s week 6 so that could be a tell.

Is COVID to blame?

Right now I say PC

hey this is Ohio football talk 😀

Yea, it is what it is. The offense looked good for Colerain. The defense played well for 3 quarters. Up 17 in the 4th, and a huge missed holding call swung momentum. A trick play Halfback Pass, and a big completed bomb at the 1 yd line with less than a min left and no timeouts, when it appeared Colerain had kept Princeton out of range for a FG.

Momentum hard to get back with no crowd,  and it appeared to me that the Colerain Defenders figured it was "too little, too late" for Princeton and didnt actually think theyd be able to make the comeback until it smacked them in the face
