Week 1 WCAC Scores

WCAC very quietly kicked off football season today. Good Counsel getting cleared to play while the Board of County Commissioners in Montgomery County won't even allow the public school teams to practice in groups of more than 25, put on pads, have any contact or use any equipment highlights the absurdity of the past year. Not to mention that this same board has cleared lacrosse and ice hockey (already been playing for two months) to play, probably because these six-figure salaried assholes have kids that play those sports and not football.

Anyway, enough rants, here are the results:

- Gonzaga (DC) 24, DeMatha 17

- Good Counsel 17, Saint Mary's Ryken 9

- Saint John's (DC) 35, Bishop McNamara 0

Also a notable score from the public school ranks as Mountain Ridge beats 1A powerhouse Fort Hill 27-20, their first win ever over the Sentinels in at least 15 attempts.

Meanwhile in Northern Virginia they had a successful winter season and are several weeks into the rescheduled fall season. Really have no idea what they are thinking over in Maryland.

MoCo, Baltimore City, PG County and DC more than all others, even Howard and Baltimore Counties are playing now. Sports in the more rural areas have been going on since January at least and Western MD even got on the field for a few weeks this fall. County/City Execs have gone power mad and aren't excited at the prospect of COVID winding down and them having to turn over the dictatorial powers they've gotten used to wielding over the past year so they're going to cling to them as long as possible.

The funny thing is that these are supposedly the most "woke" areas of the country and care all about equality but they've cost countless poor kids, many if not most of them minorities, a chance at going to college by cancelling their football and basketball seasons. Not to mention how much they've torpedoed the already below mediocre education they're receiving by having them stay online all year because the also extremely "woke" teachers unions say they can't go back to teaching in person until all disease has been cured and we've mastered alchemy. Meanwhile Thad Thadington III from Bethesda Chevy-Chase has been in school in person all year at Georgetown Preparatory School and just increased his chances of admission to Harvard by playing a full (indoor!) ice hockey season.
