Different styles give us much. Can anyone hit the notes that Miriah Carey can? Who can make you shiver like Patty LaBell? Or Aretha? Natalie Cole was no joke. Diana or Shirley? Do you know Dorothy Dandrich? Mainly I was talking about the range. Being able to hit any note and do it with such ease is what impresses me about Ella. Much respect for all those you mentioned. They are all good.

She always elicits a strong emotion from me when i hear her sing. Could be a childhood thing idk but it's there. Like her as an actress too.
Coletrain06
If you're asking technical ability, I would say Maria Callas.....actually she would be my answer regardless. But if you mean the best singer of the pop/rock/jazz/soul/country/gospel genres...... I would say Celine Dion would probably be at the front of the conversation.
paladin4ever
Agree with many of the names already mentioned. If you are looking for a present day artist with extremely strong pipes, there are two that come to mind. One is Adele, the other Ariana Grande. In fact, Ariana is the only modern day singer that can hit that high octave that Whitney and Mariah became famous for.

Great choice.
