Nolebull813
Wow that's pretty shady that a team would be a part of a regional tournament that sends you to nationals, just to decline going. That's like saying you want to compete in the playoffs but not for state championship. That is shady as hell

Gridiron Godfather
Calling it Shady may be a bit much. Youth football has become almost ridiculous in the number of "extra" games and tournaments. All have one thing in common...$$$. Being involved in multiple youth teams and tournaments, I can say the number 1 reason why people do not participate or "decline" is cost. We will be traveling to FL to play in a "national championship" tourny next week. It is a week long event. Flights, room, food etc. will end up probably around $1500 per player. Add in a parent or two and you are probably looking at $3000. Not to mention, the kids being out of school for an entire week, prior to the end of the semester. So, I understand, if it is for these reasons the team declined. Letting one team in that didn't earn it can open up a whole can of worms. Going forward, the tournament or league could just add in the rules "if a champion team is not able to play, the runner-up is eligible". Fair for everyone and more importantly to the tournament - they get their $$$
Nolebull813
If it's a tournament that is specifically for advancing and playing in national tournament then you should not participate if you have no intentions of traveling. ATLien12x
Pop Warner is a joke. No one plays that garbage lol
SJR 04
No, if you read carefully the problem is that Carson is a Division one program that lost in their division one regional playoffs. It is illegal for any Division one team to drop down to Division two after losing in Division one and to compete for a Division two national chip. That's like Michigan entering the D2 national playoffs after the Ohio state loss. You just can't do that. Popwarner made a huge mistake and attempted to fix it by disqualifying Carson
Ararar
Being reported out here that Carson competed in Division 2 all season and was moved up to Division 1 for playoffs
legendsofthefall
Sounds like the regional Pop Warner association out West dropped the ball regarding this team dropping a division.

You have D1 programs like brick city that play a league schedule comprised of D1 and D2 teams (because there isn't enough D1 teams locally), but when playoffs start they compete only in D1 playoff bracket. Doesn't make them D2 eligible because they played D2 teams during season. Sounds like such is the case for Carson. I'm sure there are some people in the program that are fully aware however will play dumb for the sake of a national title. While those who have limited knowledge cry bloody murder
