So I bet every race and see what happens.

I am kind of different. Anything to do with money is seen strictly as business to me. I always aim to get the odds on my side. Yes, I will take losses, but I don't like to lose.

I expect to lose at the track. It is not a place that winning will be on your side for long. The house always wins. You just have to have fun. The best I ever did at the track happened to be on fathers day with my dad...I think we hit something like 7 out of 9 races that day

I never had more than five winners in one day. But, then again, I seldom bet every race. What I typically did was: In the race where I was most confident, I placed half my gambling money on my choice. For the rest of the day, I may buy a ticket or two on other horses, but never much money. In the long run, I probably came close to breaking even. But for me that was not enough, as I did not enjoy the ponies so much that I could justify spending a lot of time on something I could not turn a profit from. And I'm the opposite I love horses in general so just being around them to me is a lot of fun. Is it a frustrating sport of course. No matter how much you think you know you will sooner or later lose. Never bring a cc or debit card to the track you will go broke. If you have allotted yourself 100 bucks to spend that day than bring a 100 dollar bill or 5 20s and call it a day.

Is it a frustrating sport of course. No matter how much you think you know you will sooner or later lose. I love horses too; they are very intelligent animals. The problem with the sport from a gambler's perspective is that the track takes too much off the top in determining the payout (odds) given the bettor. Thus, unless you had serious inside information on a pretty regular basis, you literally cannot win in the long run. Compared to the race track the odds of winning at a casino, at least in most games, are actually much better. So, if I were going to try and make a living from gambling, I would probably favor blackjack or baccarat, or craps over betting on the horse of the day. That said, I have no problem spending an occasional day at the track with a limited amount of money in my pocket. Like you said, don't do this on credit! I am not looking to make a living off gambling. I am not that good. I'll go to the track maybe 4-5 times over the summer btw harness and Tbred. But yes betting at a casino will give you a better win % than the track.
