Bormio
We learned the Left in Britain is as whacked as in the Good ‘ol USA, if not more so. They apparently are done with their Blair period and are back to cuckoo status again.

You said Merkels government would fall shortly. You said in a matter of weeks. You said she is barely holding on to power. I did not say she would fall, I said she could. She changed government policy on immigration and the CSU did not bail. However, the Socialists in the coalition had to eat those changes unhappily. Her coalition remains strained and fragile - and she is greatly weakened. And she can bluster to Trump on trade, but is weak there too. If Germany cannot sell cars in the US, it is turn out the lights time for the German economy.

Report post Posted July 2 ^^^ "'Not sure was your point is. Germany has a parliamentary form of government. The power resides in the Bundestag. If Merkel does not maintain majority support there, her government will fall and there will be new elections. Right now she is flailing about to stay in power - usually a sign of someone in power too long and about to go down. She may survive this week, but she is very much weakened and likely to go soon". So - she survived the week as I said. She is weakened, her coalition is fragile, and she may lose power in the next few months. Bavarian state elections are in October and if the AfD gains significantly there, it will be much tougher for her. Generally unstable coalitions fall apart sooner or later. Actually the whole conversation is stupid - 10 weeks, 4 months whatever. Ultimately what will sink her is Merkel-fatigue - she has been in power a very long time and people sense it is time for a change. Same thing happened to Thatcher. They will find some excuse to make her go.
