I did not say she would fall, I said she could.  She changed government policy on immigration and the CSU did not bail.  However, the Socialists in the coalition had to eat those changes unhappily.  Her coalition remains strained and fragile - and she is greatly weakened.  And she can bluster to Trump on trade, but is weak there too.  If Germany cannot sell cars in the US, it is turn out the lights time for the German economy.

So - she survived the week as I said.  She is weakened, her coalition is fragile, and she may lose power in the next few months.  Bavarian state elections are in October and if the AfD gains significantly there, it will be much tougher for her.  Generally unstable coalitions fall apart sooner or later.

Where did I say weeks?  Actually the whole conversation is stupid - 10 weeks, 4 months whatever.  Ultimately what will sink her is Merkel-fatigue - she has been in power a very long time and people sense it is time for a change.  Same thing happened to Thatcher. They will find some excuse to make her go.
