We'd like to again welcome Jeff Fisher to Prepgridiron.com.

Jeff Fisher is an expert in the field of high school sports. Jeff is co-founder and editor-in-chief of High School Football America, which is a media partner with USA TODAY High School Sports. Fisher began High School Football America after writing 52 different blogs on high school football. In addition, he is the host and producer of two radio shows: High School Football America and the National High School Coaches Association (“NHSCA”) Sports Hour. The two shows average over 150,000 downloads per show on the ArtistFirst Radio Network.  Fisher is also the Communications Director for the NHSCA. He is also the writer of the forthcoming High School Football in Texas, available online and elsewhere. If you'd like to learn more about Jeff Fisher you can view his bio here: http://highschoolfootballamerica.com/meet-jeff-fisher/

In collaboration with PrepGridiron Logistics, Jeff has been kind enough to give us some of his time and answer several questions posed by the members of this board. As we have done in the past, we will be asking Jeff the questions and he will be responding in the thread. We will be asking Jeff five questions and expect to open up the floor to members. Feel free to respond and ask questions, note, however, that it will be at Jeff’s discretion whether he responds further. Lastly, we ask that you keep your responses civil and on topic. The thread will be heavily moderated so that we can encourage other coaches and experts to come on in the future. Thanks again, Jeff, and everyone enjoy.

The Q&A will start at the top of the hour.

First question:

Have you made any adjustments to your algorithm since the end of last season? If so, what are they?

No, we haven't made any changes this year, but heading into our 7th year, the tradition feature gets stronger.

Jeff, great to have you again. Dovetailing on your tradition feature:

How much does last season's results and rankings weigh into the algorithm?

Thanks for having me! As I mentioned last year, the Preseason 100 is a scaled down version of what we use in season, so to you question...players coming back factor in, as well as last year affects the tradition criteria.

With that said and many of these top schools bring programs with a lot of familiar faces/names how difficult is it for a relative unknown to crack the rankings?

Great question....however, the real answer is...get it done on the field and the algorithm will find you. For example Myers Park in NC cracked it this year. Again, the purpose of the algorithm is to figure out on-field performance.

You say on the field but how do rankings work with places like Nebraska or any other state with little to no OOS play?

Just like the national powers. We do put out statewide rankings in all 50 states, but if you're asking if Burke (Nebraska) will crack the Top 100? Probably not, unless they play some big OOS games. But, in my opinion, football is great in every state. It's just that there are about a dozen states where football is a big different...meaning bigger.

Last question before we let these vultures attack with minutae each of your placements. Do the top five in your rankings reflect your personal top five? If not, what would they be?

I'm ready...to your question — the truth is, since 2013, I haven't thought once about my personal opinion when it comes to the rankings. If I did, I could persuade myself to step outside of what I try to do. I do look at how MP & USAT are doing, but I don't think to myself...so and so should be No. 10 in my opinion vs. No. 25 in the algorithm. Make sense?

Again, thanks Jeff. If you have a few minutes I’m sure the gallery is ready to fire

Jeff, could you kindly provide this forum your ratings beyond 100 and to as far as you can link to at the end of September?

so often we link CalPreps in discussion because their ratings we can check well beyond 100.  Massey also.  Thx in advance.

Thanks for the question...we're always looking at how to expand 1-to-15,000 but I don't find an appetite in-season...other than statewide, but I'm think about doing a final 2019 with every team.

The FishMiester, what do you see in SJR to warrant a top 10 Ranking??

How high do your rate to?  Can we have your max list weekly starting in October?

Top 500 - 1000 available?  Top 250?  Thx

Jeff, your algorithm consistently ranks teams from TX (#4) and GA (#3) extremely high despite several embarrassing losses to OOS competitors like IMG, BC, BG, Liberty, GC, SFA, SJC, etc. Can you explain this phenomenon? ;)

Could you give me a specific ranking vs. ranking?

Once again, I'm realizing that thinking and typing here...isn't as easy as you'd think. Meant to say "football is a bit different"

Gotta learn the art of the "ninja" edit. Haha

My only question is, since I saw you at the Mercedes Benz Stadium for the final day of the state championships: How many different states' championship games have you been able to attend and watch in person through the years?

Only asking just so I can be jealous. As always, thanks for your time on here

What are your predictions for the excellent SJC program this year.  Which teams do you feel have the best chance of beating them

Super team...MD/SJC...WOW! It's hard to do the double in the WCAC. It's almost like it's better to lose the first game to give you a better shot in playoffs...LOL
