If the current Calpreps Calif Top 20 is any indication, the Lazy polls are finally figuring it out.  Hope our esteemed pollsters @whiteshoesand @Omaha Vol follow suit.

CalHiSports rankings are the best for Cali football hands down. Very few respect Calpreps especially at this point in the season. I wonder why you're so high Calpreps right now LOL

1. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 5-0
At halftime, the Monarchs trailed St. John’s of Washington (D.C.) in a game televised from D.C. on ESPNU. Before the blink of an eye, they scored three times (opening drive of half, turnover, TD, quick punt, then another TD) and went on to win 53-24. Bryce Young threw for five touchdowns in another masterpiece.

2. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 5-0
With their non-league schedule complete after last week’s trip to Hawaii, the Braves are on a bye for this week. They start the Trinity League next week against No. 23 Servite at Orange Coast College.

3. De La Salle (Concord) 5-1
The Spartans went down early to St. Mary’s (Stockton) 7-0, but cruised to a 55-17 victory over the Rams from the Sac-Joaquin Section. A 64-yard halfback option TD pass from Shamar Garrett to Grant Daley was one of the game’s biggest plays.

4. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 4-1
Like No. 2 Bosco, the Lions also are on their bye week to get ready for the upcoming Trinity League battles. They play next on Oct. 4 against rival Santa Margarita Catholic.

5. Mission Viejo 6-0
The Diablos took care of a talent-laden No. 27 Upland in a 38-3 rout. John Burns blocked a punt and returned it 20 yards for tone touchdown. The 2020 strong safety and CIF Southern Section 300m hurdles champion has three blocked punts on the year for our top-ranked public school in the state.

6. Folsom 4-1
After surviving a scare last week against No. 25 Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), the Bulldogs blasted No. 44 Menlo-Atherton 49-0. Both teams were CIF champions last season — Folsom in D1AA and Menlo-Atherton in D3AA.

7. Narbonne (Harbor City) 5-1
The Gauchos dealt with a talented No. 32 Lawndale squad 28-0 on Friday evening. The Narbonne defense harassed Jalon Daniels all game, as the unit racked up eight sacks for the game. Alonso Person had an interception and snapped up a fumble for a touchdown. New USC quarterback commit Jake Garcia had two touchdown passes through the air and added one on the ground.

8. Centennial (Corona) 3-2
The Huskies aren’t in the Trinity League, but they’re taking this week like most of those teams. Centennial opens Big VIII League play next Friday against Corona Santiago.

9. Grace Brethren (Simi Valley) 4-0
The Lancers came off of their bye week on Friday and outlasted Westlake of Westlake Village 49-35.

10. Helix (La Mesa) 4-1
Elelyon Noa has been a tough running back to stop and No. 29 Oaks Christian of Westlake Village (2-4) couldn’t solve the puzzle, as Helix ran past the Lions 42-17. Noa had four touchdowns on the evening and Helix had a 28-7 lead at the halftime break.

11. Serra (Gardena) 4-1
The Cavs inched out a win over Cathedral (Los Angeles), as the Cavaliers defeated the Phantoms 13-7. Cathedral scored with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but Serra was able to grind out the rest of the clock to avoid the upset. It was 6-0 for most of the game.

12. Serra (San Mateo) 4-0
The Baxter Trophy will stay with the Padres, as Serra had little trouble with fellow West Catholic Athletic League member Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco) in a 41-0 rout. The Crusaders had their chances early, as Archbishop Riordan held Serra to a scoreless 0-0 first quarter and had the ball in the Padres’ red zone twice in the opening frame.

13. Alemany (Mission Hills) 5-0
It’s arguable that the Warriors are the favorite in the rugged Mission League (Serra’s loss was to Narbonne), but they will start out league play next week unbeaten vs. Bishop Amat. Head coach Casey Clausen’s team is on a bye this week.

14. Central (Fresno) 5-0
Taking a bye before starting league isn’t just a tradition in Southern California. The Grizzlies are doing that this weekend as well. They start Tri-River Athletic League competition next week against state No. 34 Buchanan of Clovis.

15. Calabasas 4-2
The Coyotes were up 21-0 at halftime over Valencia (2-2) on Friday and pulled away late for the 35-7 victory. Ryan Morrison capped off the game with a sack and forced fumble that Peter Briggs returned for a touchdown.

16. Valley Christian (San Jose) 4-0
The Warriors opening West Catholic Athletic League play with a hard fought 28-7 victory over formerly ranked St. Francis (Mountain View) on Friday. Chase Laubach was solid for Valley Christian, as the running back had 118 yards on 12 carries.

17. Norco 4-1
This team ran into a major test against No. 48 Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley) and fell 63-35. Rancho Verde was only up seven points at the halftime break, but scored 21 unanswered to pull away for the upset.

18. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 5-1
The Dons had little trouble in a 63-0 victory over Otay Ranch (Chula Vista). Joseph Sprague blocked a Otay Ranch punt in the first quarter and returned it to the one-yard line to set the tone of the game.

19. Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 5-0
It’s already been a big weekend for the Sea Kings, who played No. 21 San Clemente and handed the Tritons their first loss (42-21). Washington-bound QB Ethan Garbers was sensational with 31 completions in 40 attempts for 384 yards and four TDs.

20. Liberty (Brentwood) 6-0
For the first time in four weeks, the Lions didn’t have to sweat, as Liberty defeated its rivals Oakley (Freedom) 44-14 in the Bell Game.

21. San Clemente 5-1
LOST to No. 19 Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 42-21. Some of the earlier wins by the Tritons, however, probably are going to prevent too drastic of a drop in the next rankings.

22. St. Augustine (San Diego) 4-1
The Saints are playing 3-1 Morse (San Diego) next week. They are playing Cathedral Catholic Oct. 18.

23. Servite (Anaheim) 3-1
Sean Guyton came up with an interception to help seal the Friars’ 16-13 victory vs. No. 24 Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks. Noah Fifita threw for 155 yards and one TD in the first half, but neither team scored in the second half.

24. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 4-1
LOST to No. 23 Servite of Anaheim 16-13. Sophomore QB Zach Siskovic hit paydirt on a 13-yard touchdown run late in the first half that cut Servite’s lead at the time to 16-13. Unfortunately, that was all the Knights could get for the rest of the game.

25. Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 2-2*
After almost pulling off the biggest upset in the Sac-Joaquin Section last week against No. 6 Folsom, the Trojans themselves were upset by a talented Rocklin team. Rocklin hit a 45-yard field goal with 7:37 remaining and held on for the victory by a 28-22 score.

Mission Hills Alemany is the most surprising team to me.   They have been on a nice roll all season.

What's crazy is Alemany could end up only the 3rd best team in CIFSS D3. I like Corona del Mar personally of the top D3 schools. Garbers, Humphreys and their tight end, whose name escapes me, are quite the combo.

Just added Corona del Mar to my "watch list" in California.    The win over a very good San Clemente team was impressive.
