Sammyswordsman
UCSB campus is surrounded by the ocean on 3 sides. Stunning. It is located in the secluded city of Goleta which is about 10 minutes drive from Santa Barbara. There is a strong sense of community among the students, as most of the dorms are on campus, (except the big freshman dorm we call F*ck Towers. KIds get together in groups to study and really help each other out. The kids study hard but also party hard in IV (Isla Vista), which is the trendy area just off campus. CSU Northridge is an arm pit located near the porn capital of the country (Chattsworth). UCSD is made up of 5 separate colleges. Very nice area of San Diego. Very good athletics program especially if you’re a stud baseball player. UCSD very strong in science and engineering programs. What about UCI? It’s a great school, nice enough campus, located fairly close to beaches, not far to LA, and in the heart of the OC.

Only problem is that it is a commuter school and only has dorms for about 10% of the kids. You would be bored when all the kids leave for the weekends, but there is a lot to do in the area. But driving in CA is a pain in the ass... With that said CSUF is off the list... Housing for only 10%? Thats inadequate as f**k...

That’s why I took up motorcycling. Much easier to get around. BTW, it’s as safe as you want to make it and much less costly.

TheMaximumHornetSting
Now that I look back When I first started HS I was delusional as Sh*t... I said I was gonna go to Yale or Stanford and be the best student there.... Oh boy... that was hilarious... My first year of college I struggled because I underestimated college... I said"This is gonna be just like HS" oh god was that a lie.... Then I ended up having to transfer to another school... and now im doing ok but I look back and realize how I f**ked it all up. Because I overlooked it. Stanford and Yale wouldve ate me alive... Hell it probably still would...

I've spent a lot of time at UCSB, UCI, CSULB, and CSUF. Unless you have very specific interests, you should probably prefer UCSB to UCI, since you'd probably rather live in SB than Irvine. Otherwise, the schools are about the same. Same goes for the CSUF and CSULB pair: you should probably prefer CSULB to CSUF because you'd probably rather live in Long Beach than Fullerton. Of course this doesn't work for other pairs. The UC's have better reputations, nicer campuses, etc. than the Cal States. I've spent some time at UCSC. That's by far my favorite campus of the five. It's beautiful there. But it's a bit secluded. And I can't say much else about the school.
TheMaximumHornetSting
Holy shit the tuition though.... Honestly thats ine thing that limts college choices... prices... Remember Im OOS... Its like 40K for me...

If you have your heart set on finishing your degree in CA, then you might just make a list of the CSUs (there are many of them) and then apply based on where you'd like to live for a few years, unless you have some very specific academic interests. And I don't know how you're paying for college, but if you're paying yourself, which means you're probably taking out loans, then I'd strongly encourage you not to transfer to a CA school, since you'd have to pay out-of-state tuition; and that would be irrational, by any reasonable standard of rationality. TheMaximumHornetSting
Im also looking at acceptance rates its alot more competitive than out here... Theres only 4 colleges in GA that can compare to the acceptance rates out there... Emory University(Basically Ivy League)-7.8% Georgia Tech-15.1% Berry College- 22% Breneau University 19%

Santa Barbara is very nice, but Irvine is a pretty good place to live and there is a lot more to do outside of school.
TheMaximumHornetSting
There is a loophole in OOS thnks to GA and CA law... If you can offer proof that you live in the state you can get around OOS... But in order for that to work I wouldve needed to have done this fresh out of HS... I could try now but it would be alot harder and It would also be illegal...

The average Salary for GT grads is like 150K...
