We've been getting the smoke pretty bad here.

We've actually had some smoke here on Amelia.  Nothing like they've had other places.  We drove thru Baldwin earlier in the week...and it was bad.  The ocean breezes seem to be helping us...for the time being.

The wife wants a beach day tomorrow (I am not much of a beach guy, but whatever keeps the wife happy) so I am glad to hear that.

This morning the smoke  wasn't too bad, but the past couple of days it was pretty thick. We just got done dropping off a load of supplies for the fireman in Folkston. I feel for those guys they are Rock Stars.

Gospel !!!!!!

Clinch and Charlton county GA are being evacuated as a  wildfire is spreading insanely fast as the Fire has already set a national disaster wildfire record.  It has burned through 140,000 acres...

Lot of fires in Cali-Oregon-Washington have been more than 140,000 acres. There's been lot of million plus acre fires throughout history.

Is there a lot of houses in Charlton area?

While stationed at El Toro/Tustin years back I was with a S&R unit. I believe it was 93 the Santa Ana's were so bad, the fires were out of control. They called us in to help as best we could. I agree Every fireman first responders are the real hero's. These should be kids role models instead of LBJ and other ball players.

Charlton is a fairly large county with a small population. However the concern is thatll it spread into Camden and Lowndes County which are much more densely populated than Charlton and Clinch...

This fire has been burning since April 5th only recently has  it caught attention. And only an estimated 15% of it has been contained.

As of now 143,986 acres of land have been torched in GA alone.

There hasnt been a home count done yet.

But there are reports of people as far down as Jacksonville,FL reporting smells of smoke.

People from Valdosta have started to report damage already from fires.

Wonder why - it has not been dry. A small fire can be just as bad - an 8000 acre fire killed 19 WFF in Arizona 4 years ago.

A lot of times fire suppression creates huge fires. Years of not having fires creates lots of fuel built up on the ground to burn.

This isnt the first time its happened in this area of GA.

The Okefenoke swamp area has a history of fires.

The issue is the fires tend to start in the areas of the swamp that people dont go to or cant really reach...

And then they get bigger and spread faster...

Pine trees dont exactly stop fires....
