The North End (the Italian section) is cleaned up compared to much of the city. Good eats in many places there. A lot of the sites are in that part of town. I walked everywhere I went - great workout as SF is NOT flat. SF is probably one of the 2-3 top culinary cities in the US (New York, New Orleans). At the start of the race, we got stuck behind a dude who was only wearing the front half of his clothing. We had to wait about a mile before the crowd thinned out enough that we could pass him.
