Misleading CNN headline

Shocking no one, CNN intentionally makes a click bait headline trying to piss people off, but when you read the article, it all makes sense. States should not be using tax payer money to fund degrees that have no use in society. It actually a great idea to scrap useless degrees with no real career path that will help the state. Along with women’s gender studies and AA studies they want to scrap German languages but Germans are white so that wouldn’t help in the headline

Perhaps part of the issue is internal because this one is quite a stretch.

Your complaint is that it’s clickbait because something was excluded from the headline because it doesn’t “help in the headline.” Help what? Get clicks? So they only included stuff in the headline that people want to read about? Ummmm ok. What was misleading or factually incorrect in the headline? Nothing? Ok. What about the article? Nothing? Ok. And did they include the stuff you say “hurts the headline” in the article? They did? Ok. Soooo… what the fuck are you talking about here? Because it sounds like you’re complaining that the whole story didn’t fit in the headline.

It’s misleading  because it wants you to believe this was some racist decision and these classes were isolated and targeted based on misogyny and racism. Anyone with a brain could have seen that once they mentioned they wanted to scrap German language and literature. They knew by omitting that in the headline it would be click bait. It was misleading on purpose. You are either being ignorant on purpose, or you are too stupid to comprehend what’s going on.

I think you’re reading too much into it. They named two of the classes/programs straight out of the report in the headline, and they named them in the same order as the report. You’re suggesting they should have named all the classes in the headline? Or should they just have anticipated how it would look to you so they should go pick something out of order or make the headline super long to include things that would make it seem like they weren’t trying to manipulate the headline? Those are rhetorical questions.

Can you tell us, based solely on reading the article and nothing else, what was the author’s opinion on what was transpiring and how do you know? That’s not rhetorical. I’m really curious why you’re complaining about an article that enabled you to arrive at a reasonable conclusion without having to do any further information gathering whatsoever.

Imagine I wrote an article with the headline saying “Black woman falsely jailed”

And when you click on the article to read it, it goes on to say a black woman, white woman and Hispanic man were all falsely jailed.

Now the headline was technically true. A black woman was falsely jailed. So I’m not lying. But what the headline is doing is making you believe that race or gender has something to do with the story. When in fact after reading the article, it actually has zero to do with it.

Same with this CNN headline. They are wording it in a way that wants the reader to believe that race (AFRICAN AMERICAN studies, or gender (WOMEN’s studies has something to do with the audit. When it fact it has zero to do with it. And they know that

Ok so genuinely curious… how would you rewrite the headline?

And safe to assume that you found the actual article unbiased, concise, straightforward, factual, etc…?

“Mississippi state auditor proposes funding cuts to programs and degrees that are not relevant to the state’s workforce needs”

I see. Except you’re injecting your own opinion by saying they aren’t relevant, so that’s both biased and  misleading whereas the original headline was just, according to you, misleading.

I’ll take your lack of response to this —

… as agreement. So it’s basically a well-written piece that you have zero problem with aside from a headline that you consider misleading even though it’s crystal clear after reading the article. Just a very strange thing to complain about, and probably the weakest example of a misleading headline I’ve ever seen.

Who cares.  Why is it we don’t see sound bites and thoughts on the BRICS alliance and it’s potential economic impact on our economy..which could be devastating!

what’s the GOPs platform in addressing and combating BRICS policies, do you know?

It’s not an opinion. They have very specific workforce needs in that state. After studying that specific subject they came to the conclusion that those programs are not relevant. That’s not an opinion. It’s a fact based on their criteria. If the criteria was needing gender dance teachers, you may be onto something

These countries created an alliance as a direct rebuke to Joe Biden and his disastrous policies. The GOP would have to clean up his shit before they can do anything meaningful. These countries feel emboldened because democrats are more concerned with mutilating children and killing babies than they are trying to restore the order that America had on a world stage.

You are so lost … BRICS came about in 2001, first meeting in ‘09.  Seriously get educated. All this bullshit rhetoric y’all spout on these forums won’t affect reality. Not one bit !

Ah, so it’s an “alternative fact.”

No, it’s not an opinion that those things happened. The conclusion, however, is an opinion you’re stating as fact. Apply your logic to studies on COVID and rethink your position, maybe.

But again you’re glossing over the fact that you posted what I’d call an ideally written article… from CNN, no less. And then complained about the headline, which was about the least egregious example of “clickbait” or “misleading” you could even make up. All while complaining in your opening post about the opinions of others (presumably including the author’s) on the issue despite the fact that none are given anywhere. There’s literally no pleasing you people and you wake up every day with your minds made up before your eyes even open.
