Black History Month

February 2nd

day 2 goes to Thomas Sowell, one of the most intelligent and quoted professors of the last 50 years. His unique perspectives stood out during a time when blacks were told they can’t leave the democratic plantation. He graduated with a masters from Ivy League after he served in the Korean War. It’s a damn tragedy that he isn’t taught more in school. The fact that kids know about Tik Tok influencers but not Thomas Sowell shows the societal rot today. Here are a few good quotes from Sowell.

Interestingly enough...if you bother to notice the total,

with everyone as a group at -2%, that may not sound so bad....

But go ahead and factor in a couple of decades worth of inflation,

and you just might start to think that EVERYONE is getting royally screwed...

🪛

PS: Going by the old wall street rule of thumb for cash/fiat currency and inflation (15y=2x)...

...even those Latinos at 112%, are still losers, and in the red.....

...and probably don't even see it. 👀

BTW: assuming that chart of yours is correct and includes EVERYONE, as in both 1%ers and 99%ers (with the entire us pop getting their net worth more than halved with inflation)...just exactly WHERE do you think all that "lost wealth" went to ???  🤔 (remembering that stuff like land and homes, businesses, durable and personal goods,  all rise with that same inflation)....

Any guesses ???

Ha, I knew my cell phone post would be dropped.  Photo reply lol.

Rising health costs vs increase life expectancy is my final answer (and only lol).  Pensions being less prevalent I also thought of, but doubt that’s a variable.

a very decent response 👍

I was going to say multiple choice answer..

A) US gov

B) Foreign interests

C) Corporate interests

D) any other "non-US population" interest you can think of.

(the can "hold assets" choices)

but got lazy typing LOL...maybe some help 🤔?

But I absolutely agree 100% on the moving parts 👍  and the charts/stats they pimp on those channels are always lacking severely 🙁.  And Thanks at least for providing the actual "generally accepted guestimate of the actual inflation rate for the period" LOLOL...probably a better guide than the old "rule-o-thumb"....

Thumb GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY  🤣

But almost any way you look at that chart if even close to accurate...🤔

it might make you think, in certain light 💡 ?

Those answers

add some spicy flavor  🌶️....LOL

But wouldn't we put that in the 'proccess' category...

...not the 'destination' ???

🤔

It's an interesting discussion based on that 21 year span of data...

Your prior mention of A) US gov't...    I thought of social security vs. rising cost of inflation and dollar strength overall.  There was an increase made last year by A), I forgot what the % was.   But perhaps that is still light vs. the needs of a SS recipient, who had hoped their X number of years of service would assist more with a monthly wire transfer to their checking account.    Net value always has me thinking towards investing of course... and this where the black demographic imho has been a total failure.

In recent months I have viewed several TV commercials with an investing flavor App with minority investing theme in mind.  It will happen, but it will take time.   I listen/watch CNBC quite often and they are doing their part.  The staff and guests are very minority friendly and it's good to see.

Education and generations handing down knowledge...

"Education and generations handing down knowledge"...

my first inclination agrees ...LOL 👍

and I really like that you phrased it as "knowledge",

because passing down $...can corrupt more than assist. 🤷‍♂️

besides the fact that knowledge

is much more powerful than $  👏

PS: as far as downward pressure on broken homes etc., that generational knowledge has a much greater psychological barrier than people realize, as it is exponentially harder to "pay it forward", when you grow up feeling you were never given anything...

BTW: of course all that unrecognized "downward pressure"...

...must be assigned to someone tho right ? 🤔

Regarding CNBC or any channel... for heaven's sake teach these people to focus on stop saying "ya know" "you know" so fricking often.   I won't single out one CNBC contributor who was on yesterday between noon and 1 pm est, but it was fricking brutal.   Pet peeve lol.  I do it myself of course and it bugs the crap out of me lol.

I also love how Nolebull813 wants to celebrate Thomas Sowell but then picks the dumbest possible quotes.

I don't know if the good professor actually said this but his "gotcha" claim is nonsense. Being a Sociology professor is about self-selection. The diversity that most people are talking about is in highly competitive environments where there are tons of viable and qualified minority candidates. See the recent Brian Flores lawsuit as an example.

Republicans have vacated huge swathes of academia. One of the common conservative traits is to take their ball and go home.

It's a very dumb analogy.

So who here doesn't realize that both sides

are the first to politically pander.......🥸

The hypocrisy in both is like a conviction test

for your own standards vs your own partisanship.

🤣

Dig the message.  We all should follow suit and also pay it forward as much as we can.

A much better vibe than the rest of the thread ...👍

Besides, it's a blessing

when thinking of your own history

to have your father be the first thought...

PS: The way it's supposed be ...right?

🙂

I hear ya… every politician should also have patches like NASCAR to emphasize their top donors/support team and I’m having a brain freeze and will use the proper term for the paid assassins who push the narrative in a soon edit.
