Russian meddling in election

Former president George W. Bush states that there is clear evidence that Russia meddled in the last election

"It’s problematic that a foreign nation is involved in our election system. Our democracy is only as good as people trust the results." - George W. Bush

To be clear- I am not accusing the Trump campaign of collusion, although I am under the belief that there is clear evidence of Russain meddling in the election. If you remember social media during the election, you will have noticed the mountains of fake news stories and Russian troll bots all over the net, mostly in favor of conservative stories. This is still true today. Go read the comments on any political article on social media or on yahoo. Conservative troll accounts everywhere.

I’m sure they did, or at least they tried...just like they’ve been doing for the past 50+ years, and just like we’ve been doing to every other country over the same timespan.

Its only a big deal now because the wrong candidate won.

Hope this helps.

Sure they have been trying for a long time.  The difference is we didn't have the internet back then and social media is a pretty recent phenomenon that exponentially connects people and thoughts.  It's truly a game changer.

We’ve had the internet for over 20 years, and social media has been active since the mid 2000s.

Rest assured that Russia “meddled” extensively in 2008 and 2012. For some reason, there was no hysteria.

False. This was the first election where social media was relied upon heavily, especially in the far right circles, to get messages and fake news across.

This was the first election that was remotely like this. If you think any different, you must have been sleeping through this election.

Even if Hillary had won, it still wouldn't change the fact of all the Russian troll bot accounts that are still all over social media accounts and news websites.

Facebook had to removed thousands of them.

Don't forget the army of fake twitter accounts that are lining the halls of Fat Nixon's twitter page. People were wondering what they were all doing on there and after some time, some are thinking they may automatically like the stuff he sends out on there which emboldens him to do more of it.

Really sophisticated stuff going on with Russia and their "working" of our systems, and the possible methods they are using to pull the potus' strings.

I don't know what's worse. The fact that Russia is doing this, or the fact that we have a portion of our society dumb enough to be swayed by these fake bot accounts.

It's really sad. Some of the people being swayed are reading this right now.

In yet another Shocking Turn of Events, Foolsom is incorrect on every single fact.

Both of Obama’s campaigns were credited with the concept of social media engagement reaching voters, and was widely credited with his success.

Social media bots have been in use by every intelligence agency since the mid 2000s.

That might be true to some degree but Obama won by 9.5 million in 2008 and 5.0 million in 2012.  Trump lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million.  Perhaps there was meddling in 2008 and 2012 which should have been investigated but apparently it wasn't effective enough unless you think the Russians or someone else was in the tank for Obama. O.o

Anytime someone loses the popular vote but wins the election there is going to be extra scrutiny.  And there should be.

Remember 2000?  The U.S. government is reactive not proactive in this regard.

U.S. Intelligence agencies overwhelming state that there was Russian intervention.  This time they helped the Republicans.  Next time they might help the Democrats and you wouldn't like that, now would you?

What I find as disturbing is highlighted by the shell companies for the Russians that have been exposed as investors and buyers in Trump properties.  Who is to say that these shell companies aren't contributing money to U.S. political campaigns?  With the Citizens United ruling, they can and only an idiot would think that they aren't.  That's scary.

I never said anything to the contrary.

So, has Russian troll bots been spreading conservative fake news since the early 2000s? Nope.

You are wrong again you hack.

Russian troll bots have been spreading fake news on both sides since the mid 2000s.

Might want to take a look at the analysis showing said fake news pretty evenly distributed by ideology in 2016.

Still wishing you sucked less at this, sport.

Since the mid 2000s? Show me a credible source that shows this.

And "pretty even" is not even. As we both know, uneducated voters are MUCH MORE likely to be swayed by fake news that educated voters. They don't understand sources and believe much of what they read.

You lose. Again.

See above. Actual analysis shows the “meddling” pretty equally split between both candidates.

Carry on with the Good Fight...Hopefully the tinfoil doesn’t chafe too badly. xD

Really?  What is your source saying that fake news was pretty evenly distributed by ideology in 2016?  The Dartmouth study shows that right wing fake news was vastly prevalent in the 2016 election.

I still never hear the wing nuts explain why the communists favor them.

Interesting. Take a look at this Stanford, non-partisan report. Here is an exert from the study analysis.

"Second, we confirm that fake news was both widely shared and heavily tilted

in favor of Donald Trump. Our database contains 115 pro-Trump fake stories that

were shared on Facebook a total of 30 million times, and 41 pro-Clinton fake stories

shared a total of 7.6 million times."

@zulu1128

You lose. Again. You need to go back to school. Let me guess, this article is fake news? LMFAO!

Yes, and the Dartmouth studies draws the same conclusion.
