ECHS05 Posted July 6, 2018 Report Share Posted July 6, 2018 Utah people, or anyone with knowledge on Corner Canyon... How good is this team going to be in 2018? They seemingly came out of nowhere in 2017. Last year they caught my eye midway through the season, after beating Orem 27-14, Timpview 44-7, Alta 38-21, Jordan 31-14, & Highland 37-0.... Until they were eventually defeated by Skyridge 34-33 in the 5A Semis... They finished the season 11-1. It looks like they return 6 on O and 6 on D, but lose their starting QB, RB, and #1 WR. They look like a new school, and I found myself following them very closely last year. Are they an up and comer? Are they expected to stay at the top? CP had them finishing at 5 in Utah last season. Also, If Ronald Thompkins can stay healthy at RB, he HAS to stay healthy. Halyard is good, but not at the level Grayson needs to be an elite team. Thompkins has Power, Speed, & Quickness... Halyard is mainly a Scatback. Graysons defense should be really good. They have a new DC, but if hes even halfway decent they'll be fine. Last year, they gave up ... 35 vs. North Gwinnett (lost to eventual State Champ NG in 2nd Rd, 35-28) 26 vs Hoover AL 16 vs Ramsay AL & Newton 14 vs Norcross 9 vs John Curtis LA 7 vs McEachern 6 vs Archer, Shiloh, & South Gwinnett 0 vs ISB & Rockdale Co. 141/12 = 11.75 ppg allowed Grayson has a ton of new assistant coaches, almost all of them... The HC is going into his 2nd season at Grayson, and his 3rd overall as a HC for ANY school. Just a matter of who wants to play with the flavor of the month! I remember the two seasons that the Sandy, Utah, Jordan Beet Diggers trekked to DEATH VALLEY, to play the CATS! They only had a few black dudes. But were fairly quick, but not particularly physical! I believe that they finished as state runners up that first season, beating Valdosta 21-13! Really, its more that they are a very good playoff team... 2017 was a perfect example of that.... They lost to Brookwood, Tift Co., and Lowndes in the regular season... All very good teams.. BUT.. In the playoffs they went on one of the best runs Ive ever seen... Beating undefeated Archer & Walton on the road, and beating a team that beat them in the regular season, Brookwood, 31-14 on the road... Then they lost in the State Title game as time expired to North Gwinnett also on the road..... Colquitt is a Playoff team, not a regular season team... One more time, Colquitt Co. is a playoff team, they lose in the regular season on average 2-3 times a year, but Colquitt is one of the best Playoff teams in the country. If you look back... 2014 & 2015 were exceptions at 15-0... They had very good players those 2 years, and more FBS talent than normal... Lets look at their record since Propst arrived.... 2008: 4-6 (Propsts' 1st season, they were 2-8 the year before he arrived) 2009: 11-3 (L in Semifinals to eventual State Champ Camden Co. 19-10) 2010: 9-6 (finished 5-5 in regular season , but ended up going to the State Title game losing to Brookwood 52-38 ... They started this season 0-3, including a 65-35 loss to MNC South Panola MS, they did score 22 more points than any other team did vs. SP... But Colquitts D was junk this year) 2011: 11-3 (Lost to eventual State Champ Grayson 35-31 in Semis) 2012: 10-4 (Lost to eventual State Champ Norcross 41-27 in Semis) 2013: 11-3 (Lost to eventual State Champ Norcross 14-9 in Semis) 2014: 15-0 (State Champions, beat Archer 28-24) 2015: 15-0 (State Champions, beat Roswell 30-13) 2016: 8-5 (Their streak of 7 straight years making it to ATLEAST the Semifinals comes to an end ... in those 7 years , they won State twice, and all other times they lost to the eventual State Champ... In 2016, they made it to the Quarterfinals and again lost to the eventual State Champ Grayson 49-21) 2017: 11-4 (L to North Gwinnett 19-17 in State Title game) For 9 straight years, Colquitt has either won State (twice) or lost to the Eventual State Champion in the playoffs every single time ...
