Bormio
...: Europeans lose their minds. Trump was referring to trade issues. But what he is really saying is that they are irrelevant. Hamstrung by Brussels, unwilling to use whatever power they have - why not deal with Russia instead, a country that actually matters in terms of US geopolitical concerns. Bormio
Outside of the U.K., no country in Europe is relevant when it comes to most of the world’s flashpoints. They are either unwilling or unable to play a significant role. They have all been losing population - at least until Muslim immigration accelerated. Russia is important in matters concerning the Middle East, war on terror and vis a vis China. Plus they are interested in being a significant military power - a fact we cannot overlook. Putin has serious flaws and could end up being an implacable enemy - but he is not Hitler or Stalin - or even the old Communist regime in the Soviet Union. We need to deal with him because Russia is a player.

Horsefly
Words have meanings and should be chosen carefully. A foe=enemy and his aggressive in-your-face style and open criticisms exacerbate the problem. The man doesn’t walk on water, it’s ok to acknowledge he missteps from time to time. What should be the response since there are indictments, do we ignore and say "it happens" or address the issue? The ball is clearly in the Repubs hands. Since there was condemnation for Obama for doing nothing in Crimea, do we continue to punish Russia for annexation or remove them? All of these are actions that have impacts one way or another and sends signals to other nations on how to deal with US.

We need to deal with him because Russia is a player. We have a lot of allies throughout the EU. Those allies have shed blood WITH us and hold the values that we use to say we had but not currently. Allies must mean something. Russia is not our ally and not our friend and they want to weaken the US. Why would we want to kiss Putin's ass? Although, if Russia was to be our friend then Trump might then treat them like an ass like he does to our current friends. But not likely since Putin now runs the Repub party and Trump. No it does not, militarily they have had our backs, supported us unconditionally in Afghanistan and Iraq, we need to remember this and not be blinded by poor word choice. NK is a foe, Iran is a foe. Big difference. We have political differences with allies.

Speaking of that, have we asked them to back off their joint mil exercises with China? They just had one AGAIN this spring. Who are those exercises in preparation for? There was a cold war and nobody was wanting to get cozy with Russia. After the wall came down in 89 there was a new hope that they wouldn't be the enemy they had been but that was it. No love for communism.
HSFBfan
If any idiot fell for anything in the 2016 election than they are just dumb. You knew who you were gonna vote for. Nobody was gonna tell anyone any different. All these undecided voters is bs. You already know come November who you are gonna vote for for the midterms. And in 2020 I'm sure you'll know by January of that year

The point is they want to weaken is and sow discord and they are not our friend. That should be a uniting factor as it always has been before Trump. Amazing that they get a pass and our allies get treated like they are our enemy.
