Anybody else wonder about the overall poor outside shooting in both semi-finals ?  The baseline "3"s being the exception. Sure the defenses are good or the teams wouldn't be here; but these cavernous 70,000(+) seat football stadiums don't seem to be very good for sharpshooters to dial in their shots. There sure were plenty of air balls and bricks in both contests. Is it air circulation, a depth or background perception issue, big game pressure, etc.,etc ? One thing is certain. Any one of twenty schools were good enough to win this thing. The final two are very good and very lucky. You've got to have both to win this fabulous tournament.

Very good question.  Noticed the same thing.

Good question / observation.  Changed depth perception + the handling of the big game emotions probably both have an impact for sure.

Our high school state tournament had some games at the NBA arena in town. Not as big as a football stadium with a basketball court in it, but still significantly different than a high school gym. I think the depth perception is a key reason for shots being affected, which has to do with all the space behind the baskets but also how clean the friggin' backboards are -- none of the high school grime and loogies and stuff on the back of the glass that helps with the whole spatial thing. Takes some getting used to, for sure. I was launching bricks left and right. I'm thinking nerves had a bit to do with it too, though.

Oh, and the refs were probably off their game due to the depth perception too, cuz they sucked. They had to have -- we lost by 1 in the championship.

Three-point attempts from the baseline are 3 feet shorter than those from the top of the key.

That might explain why they are generally more successful.
