Baseball is like NASCAR - if you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying.

Sadly, your correct..One of the reasons I have not watched football or baseball in about 5 years...Some colleges and good hs,that's it...No longer watch Yankees, who I loved...Saw Mantle almost hit one out...

Yankees score 7 in the bottom of the first, give up 7 in the top of the ninth to the mediocre Angels - lose 11-8.  #whendoesBoonegetfired, #dumpsterfire

Like Bucky’s dent, Aaron Fucking Boone’s (as he is known to every New Englander for which wicked nice, wicked cool, wicked ...was part of their vocabulary) shot off Tim Wakefield in relief goes down as part of pinstriped lore.  Yeah that’s right, only a knucklehead sends in a knuckleballer in relief.  Anyhow, the Yankees owned MLB long ago, but the expectations have dropped.  Boone is as much a legend as Buckner is a villain lol.

Boone is quickly setting fire to that legendary status.  Just read the Yankee boards (sometimes I do for fun  on occasion - like last night).  And actually Wakefield had a very effective run as a closer in 1999 and pitched in relief a lot for the next 3 years.  Wakefield remains a beloved figure by Red Sox Nation.  Grady Little took the heat for 2003, not for Wakefield, but for leaving Pedro in too long in the 8th.

In 2004, the Sox were getting pummeled 19-8 in game 3 of the ALCS and their pen was shot.  Wakefield was supposed to start game 4 but went to Francona and offered to pitch innings in the blowout, giving up his start.  Derek Lowe pitched well in game 4 and the Sox eventually won it. Lowe pitched brilliantly on 2 days rest in game 7.  But Francona said that it was Wakefield’s selfless act that made the whole comeback possible.

Not a bad story for a converted 3B for the Augusta, Ga. Pirates in 1988! I remember that team well!
