Coppell is one of the Better defensive teams in DFW year in and year out. That big DT Solomon Thomas from Stanford that went 3rd in the draft to the 49ers were on that team that Beat Allen. They produce good defensive kids seldom are they blown out. Allen will have played 3 really good teams before they feast on District. Coppell is also 2-0 right now.
DevilDog
Side Note and pretty symbolic he is going against his old Team. But if Coach Reginald Samples at D'ville beats Skyline tonight he will tie for the most wins than any African American Coach in Texas High School History. The UIL and the PVIL (old African American league) prior to integration integrated in 1967. https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2017/09/13/duncanvilles-reginald-samples-closing-uil-record-became-one-time-greats DUNCANVILLE -- When Duncanville coach Reginald Samples started receiving congratulatory calls from former assistants this week, he had to stop and think what they were for. It was his receivers coach Eric Mims, who told him he was close to passing Allen Wilson -- the former Paris, John Tyler and Carter coach -- for the most wins by a black coach in UIL history. The UIL integrated with the Prairie View Interscholastic League in 1967. While the numbers are in debate, Dallas Morning News research and archives indicates Wilson has 249 wins while Samples has 248. Samples can tie Wilson with a win over his former team, Skyline, on Friday.

DevilDog
A shout out to Texas TAPPS. Last week at the BOB Bishop Dunne took TN# 1 Brentwood Academy all 4 qtrs. before losing 21 -14. Tonight they Travel to Fayetteville, AR #4 in State and win 34 -33 in OT. They blocked Fayetteville's xp in OT. Scored 6 and kicked xp to win it Dallas Jesuit Gave Desoto all they wanted in week 2 and tonight are holding their own against Lake Travis on the road beore losing 64 - 45. But the one team people should watch here is Midland Christian. Last week they beat 3A #1 Brock on the road 26- 9 in week 2. In week #1 they beat 6A Eastwood of El Paso 41 -31 that same Eastwood lost to 6A Permian 49 - 27 tonight and tonight they beat 6A Americas of El Paso 54 - 14. America's played the #1 team in New Mexico Rio Rancho and lost 42 - 10. I know it's El Paso but this is a good TAPPS team. They dominated the lower TAPPS for years and moved up about 3 years ago. You might remember Shea Patterson and Calvary Baptist beating them a few years back. TAPPS Is on the rise here.

Shady12
West Texas notes- Odessa loses to a good 5A Lubbock Coronado 21-20 to just miss going 3-0 after losing their previous 15 games. Abilene at 0-3 is eye-opening and none of their games have been close (a couple scores closer than they really were). Abilene Cooper in 5A beat Abilene in the Crosstown Showdown and has been really good, including beating Grapevine last week. Wall is the best team in 3A and smashed Lago Vista 57-7. Permian made the long trip to El Paso and were down to Eastwood 20-14 at Halftime. Won 49-27 but gave up over 500 yards (Eastwood really airs it out). Midland Lee continues to look very strong and beat EP El Dorado easily. Final 48-34 but El Dorado scored three garbage TDs late. They might be the best team in the LSWC right now. San Angelo Central made some strides beating 5A Tivy 57-6. Not a good opponent but they had no turnovers which was a problem in the first few games and thus scored in the 50's.

Four legitimately good teams, maybe five. Only Midland and Frenship look bad. San Angelo gets OP, Lee, and Tascosa at home. Interestingly Permian's game last night was their only true road game of the year other than going to San Angelo. All other games in Odessa or Midland. They now have six weeks at home, including two bye weeks, before heading to San Angelo. Tascosa has to play OP, Lee, and San Angelo on the road. Frosty4024
I was at the Sulphur Springs vs Paris Double OT Game... 1st off: That...new...stadium....is....NIIIIICE!!!! Definitely one worth checking out for a smaller 5A school... As for the game itself...Everyone knows about the Curse of the Dallas Cowboy Blues (The Blue Jerseys) Wellp...Sulphur Springs has the Curse of the Greys...According to my friend who got me tickets to the game, Sulphur Springs has never won when they sported the All-Grey uni's (Which look Awesome btw...) So why wear them during homecoming I was thinking??? Anyways....I was thinking meh...no big deal as Sulphur Springs jumped out to a 14-0 lead....Until Paris figured out their big boys could run on Sulphur Springs smallish (but aggressive) 3-4 defense (Paris OTs were both over 300 (or pretty close) and 1 was at least 6'5..) I can talk about this game all day....But QB play and Special Teams cost SSHS...Their kicker is extremely inconsistent (Missed GAME-WINNING XP IN 1ST OVERTIME...along with 2 other FGS...) But the QB was to blame imo....While Paris QB (Who couldn't hit the ocean in a boat when it comes to passing....) He threw the ball away when nothing was there. Meanwhile Sulphur Springs QB kept thinking he was Mike Vick...Holding on to the ball too-long with open WRs...But the killer came in the 2nd OT when he took a 15-yard sack...Team had to settle for a FG... Play-calling was suspect also on offense...SSHS could have took advantage of 1-on-1s with hitches routes (It was there all game...minus the QB holding the ball too long..) Sulphur Springs had ample opportunities to win this game...Numerous TD passes caught out-of-bounds because QB left no room for the WR to catch pass in-bounds...Abandoning simple pass routes in favor of read-option...Failed 2pt conversions and missed XPs along with a couple of missed FGs... After watching this game...it's safe to say it's still Texas High's district to lose...Despite Texas High's horrible start. But keep a lookout for Marshall...2 of their losses are to 6A schools (Longview and Tyler Lee). To sum it up: Sulphur Springs is a pretender...I see them finishing 3rd or 4th in this weak East Texas district....Unless they get their act together... https://www.ssnewstelegram.com/sports/sulphur-springs-wildcats-can-t-land-big-catch/article_f77b7aac-9afa-11e7-8760-073e37abcd8b.html Errors: Texas High is 1-2 not 2-1...And Greenville somehow actually pulled their game out late in the 4th go to 2-1... Just the fact Greenville is 2-1 alone is worth giving the Lions a standing ovation..
