President Donald Trump’s controversial steel tariffs are already taking a major toll on one of the last remaining nail producers in the United States. Mid Continent Nail Corporation, a nail manufacturer located in southeast Missouri, lost 50 percent of its business in the two weeks since Trump signed a new tariff on steel imports, according to a MissouriNet report published on Friday.

The nail company said the updated impositions on steel goods resulted in the producer having to lay off 60 temporary workers. At the beginning of June, Mid Continent had roughly 500 people on staff, but the company may be forced to axe 200 more jobs by the end of July. There is a possibility the nail producer, which is one of the largest employers in Missouri's Butler County, may be completely out of business by Labor Day due to the tariff.

Under the new tariff, a 25 percent tax may be applied on imported steel while imported aluminum is taxed 10 percent.

Mid Continent’s parent company, Deacero, is based in Mexico. It is there where the steel is produced, resulting in Deacero having to suffer the 25 percent tax for importing materials shipped to Mid continent's Poplar Bluff facility, despite the fact that steel products are being sent to its own company

Did anyone hear about the $300 billion repatriated in Q1?

Businesses were already cash rich so instead of reinvesting back into their co. this allowed them to buyback company stock.  Overvalued stock is great for CEO portfolios but does nothing for the working man.

So there's no investment going on.

OK. Thanks.

And Harley is getting ready to bolt their asses overseas for some production. How is that rowdy bunch of Sturgis regulars gonna take that?  And now the Orange Man is attacking Harley.  This is about to get real good real soon.

Trump threatens to tax Harley-Davidson 'like never before' if it moves some production overseas

President Donald Trump targeted Harley-Davidson Inc. Tuesday for its plan to relocate some of its production overseas by accusing the company of misleadingly using tariffs “as an excuse," and threatened to tax the company "like never before" on any of those motorcycles it tries to sell in the United States.

This guy is out of control, Harley overseas sales increased, so why wouldn’t they position themselves to take adv of that by opening plants overseas?  The tariffs only hastened their plan.

On Monday, Milwaukee-based Harley said it would shift production of motorcycles for the European market from U.S. to overseas plants to escape the pain of retaliatory tariffs. The European Union raised tariffs on Harleys from 6 percent to 31 percent in response to Trump administration tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum.

And American-built Indian growing and gaining market share.

Harley's been hurting for awhile now. But that doesn't fit the narrative.

I ride a Vespa remember. :D Harley as you know have been changing it's market from Big and Clunky to smaller and affordable.  This will kill it even more.  And I thought all that vibration and oil leakage would do them in.  Nope tariffs killed the Beast.

The narrative is simple.  Their overseas market is growing and they want to shift parts of their production to that region and trump is shitting on himself.
