If you'd like to learn more about Jeff Fisher you can view his bio here: http://highschoolfootballamerica.com/meet-jeff-fisher/ In collaboration with PrepGridiron Logistics, Jeff has been kind enough to give us some of his time and answer several questions posed by the members of this board. As we have done in the past, we will be asking Jeff the questions and he will be responding in the thread. We will be asking Jeff five questions and expect to open up the floor to members. Feel free to respond and ask questions, note, however, that it will be at Jeff’s discretion whether he responds further. Lastly, we ask that you keep your responses civil and on topic. The thread will be heavily moderated so that we can encourage other coaches and experts to come on in the future. Thanks again, Jeff, and everyone enjoy. We will start in about 10 min. 2 1
PrepGridiron
Jeff, Thanks for joining us. First question: I know we all have questions on specific rankings of teams, but can you give us a high level overview of how your poll works? PrepGridiron
Its all good, Jeff. I know we'll have some questions on the "human" factor of your algorithm and rankings, but I wanted to cover your book that's coming out. You are releasing a book about Texas High School Football, can you give us some insight into the book?

PrepGridiron
Sounds real awesome. Many of us will be excited if the series gains traction. Next question: You've been covering high school football for some time, what are the trends you like and don't like about the current state of the game?

PrepGridiron
Following up on the last part of your answer: Do you get a chance to watch games live? If so, how do you treat the rankings when what you see is not corresponding to the proprietary rankings?

PrepGridiron
You preempted my last question, so I'll follow up with can you share your power state rating top 5? What order do you rate CA, FL, GA, OH and TX when setting state scales or do you use the Massey ratings system for state scaling and add categories from that base? HSFBA
I'm not sure how others ranking systems work or what they use. I'm not a math guy, but I do know this game well after 40 years. The bottom line, without upsetting people, is that some states are better than others and our algorithm recognizes that.
HSFBA
Heading into the season TX, GA, FL and CA are very, very close in overall strength 1

With a joke at the top...I'd have to kill you if I told you everything...LOL. But, as you can imagine, strength of schedule is right at the top. Point differential against that strength is big. And, as we mentioned before, being in a traditional state helps. In all, there are 15 items in the algorithm.

AztecPadre
Jeff, when is the Cali football book coming out and being that you love tradition, I am guessing you like rivalry games as well. Have you ever taken in the famous "Shoe Game" ? Carmel vs Pacific grove. Started in 1947 and is played as each teams last regular season game.

I guess I misread your question...preseason is a scaled down version of the algorithm...SOS, returners, tradition and state to name a few...sorry
