This is no surprise. The premier tournament is the Nation in the USA Baseball tournament in Cary, NC. I believe they have had this this about 5 years and Cali teams have won most of them. Only the top teams in the country play there. The first 2 years Mater Dei beat Harvard-Westlake. Huntington Beach won last year. This year Orange Lutheran beat Dana Hills for the title this year. So most years it has been 2 Cali teams in the finals.

Bishop Amat and JSerra have reached the championship game of the National Classic and will play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton.

Bishop Amat might be wise to pitch very carefully to JSerra leadoff hitter Royce Lewis, one of the top players in the nation. He has gotten very hot in the National Classic with seven hits in three games.

On Wednesday, he hit a home run in JSerra's 4-1 semifinal victory over Mission Viejo. Collin Townsend came through with a dominant pitching performance, striking out eight.

Bishop Amat picked up a 4-1 semifinal victory over Arizona Sunrise Mountain.

Nick DiFiori threw a three-hitter, striking out five. A three-run second inning propelled the Lancers in knocking off the team that handed California's No. 1-ranked team, Buchanan, its first loss.

In Las Vegas, Chatsworth defeated Faith Lutheran, 15-0, to improve to 4-0. Brandon Bohning, Tommy Palomera and Randy Mata each hit home runs.

Thanks for the updates Ararar. I enjoy this tourney and saw A-Rod play in it when he was at Westminister Christian.

Amat has won it a couple times.   How did Buchanon do ?

No problem. Buchanon played Oaks Christian in a consolation game but I don't know who won

What's with all the Latino names on BA roster? Hopefully ran doesn't see this and claim it as fake news. Lol. BA looks to be pretty darn good this year. Back in the 90's I remember Rancho San bernardo from SD always being good. They killed us in tourneys every year.

It was at this time last season that Harvard-Westlake started putting together the pieces that ultimately helped the Wolverines reach the Division 1 baseball championship game.

Like last season, Harvard-Westlake went to Florida and again won the IMG tournament championship.

Perhaps the best baseball tournament of the season gets underway on Monday at Santa Ana Mater Dei and JSerra. The South Division of the Boras Classic has 12 of its 16 teams ranked in The Times' top 25 rankings.

Four of the players participating -- Hunter Greene of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Royce Lewis of JSerra, and Nick Pratto and Hagen Danner of Huntington Beach -- are potential first-round draft picks.

The best opening game of the tournament features the two hottest teams in City Section power Chatsworth taking on Vista Murrieta in a 3 p.m. game at JSerra.

No. 2-ranked Huntington Beach probably qualifies as the pre-tournament favorite. There's also Orange Lutheran, which got swept in a three-game series against St. John Bosco but has already proven it can win a tournament after going to North Carolina and winning the National High School Invitational.

The most exciting matchup could come on Tuesday if Huntington Beach and Notre Dame win their Monday openers.

Games will also be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the championship game on Thursday at 6 p.m. at JSerra.

Here's the link to the complete schedule.

Chatsworth is 20-2 and considered the No. 1 team in the City Section thanks to its outstanding pitching depth.

The Chancellors get to show off their pitching at this week's Boras Classic, opening on Tuesday against Vista Murrieta at 3 p.m. at JSerra.

Coach Tom Meusborn has no less than five quality pitchers to choose from.

Thomas Gutierrez is 7-0 with an 0.62 ERA. Tommy Palomera is 4-2 with a 1.58 ERA and having faced the toughest opponents on the Chancellors schedule.

Josh Medina, known more for his hitting in the outfield, is 4-0 with an 0.82 ERA. Sophomore Gabe Achucarro, who throws submarine style, is 3-0 with an 0.86 ERA. Mackenzie Lomas is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA.

If the Chancellors can get past a good Vista Murrieta team in the opener, then the pitching depth should become very important.

Chatsworth has always been very solid in the city and valley. Dewey Evans, Mustakis theyve produced  a few players.
