Cumberland is by far the biggest football town in MD. Local news station televises all varsity and some JV/freshman/youth league games. No other game in MD is on over the air TV except for one Thanksgiving Day game and the state championships. That they even have a freshman team is remarkable considering 90% of 4A teams in the state don't have freshman teams and some can't even field JVs. They've sent a couple kids FBS including Ty Johnson who was a 1,000 yard back for Maryland last year. They're not playing against great competition for the most part but have some decent wins. Allegany (crosstown rival) is the 2nd best team in 1A and they've beaten four times in the last two years, once in the regular season finale and then again in the regional final. Other than that their best wins are Keyser (WV), usually a top 5 team in WV who also gave them their only loss, Sherando (VA) who is a decent 4A team there and South Hagerstown (MD) who is usually a 3A playoff team. Only if the Virginia team was a national title contender would it hurt them. Colquitt picked the worst Plant team in a decade to use as their marquee game to be put on the national stage.
