Interesting Article and Data

The article is long, but loaded with information that many here might find eye-opening....

https://www.city-journal.org/achievement-gap-explains-demographic-disparities

There is a great deal of data provided about standardized test results (SAT, NAEP, MCAT, GMAT etc) that is highly relevant to the below quotes.

Quote

The United States is being torn apart by an idea: that racism defines America. The death of George Floyd under the knee of a Minneapolis police officer in late May 2020 catapulted this claim into national prominence; riots and the desecration of national symbols followed. Now, activists and their media allies are marshaling a more sweeping set of facts to prove the dominance of white supremacy: the absence of a proportional representation of blacks in a range of organizations. That insufficient diversity results from racial bias, claim the activists, and every few days, the press serves up another exposé of this industry or that company’s too-white workforce to drive home the point.

...

The myth of bias, whether in medicine, technology, or finance, can be maintained only by ignoring the skills gap. There simply are not enough competitively qualified black candidates to go around. Moreover, one-third of all black males have a felony conviction. Such convictions do not happen by chance; they signal involvement with the street culture of guns, drugs, and impulsivity, none of which is a selling point to employers. The prevalence of out-of-wedlock births in the black community (over 69 percent of all births) means that a high percentage of black females are burdened with solo child-rearing responsibilities. Such responsibilities make advancement more difficult, no matter the amount of employer paid leave.

...

The National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington declared this past summer that rationality, the two-parent family, punctuality, self-control, and being polite were “white” traits. The museum, part of the Smithsonian Institution, thus strengthened the underclass stigma against “acting white,” defined as trying hard in school and obeying one’s teacher. How the Smithsonian’s leaders thought that they were helping black children by teaching them to scorn “hard work” and “delayed gratification” goes unexplained.

Of course, the above is focused mainly on the post college-age gaps in achievement and hiring.

Underlying reasons behind what causes the gaps to begin with are not addressed or just touched upon (ex. shitty government schools in our inner cities and lack of alternatives, incarceration rates).

Certainly claiming that something like, say, engineering is a biased field because only 30% of engineers are women is silly. Only 30% of engineering degrees are earned by women. It's self-selection. Women don't choose to become engineers.

But otherwise this is just conservative pablum.

Heather Mac Donald (who apparently added the space in her last name on her own) is a conservative ideologue who subscribes to the theory that everything is a myth.

The Myth of Criminal-Justice Racism

The Myth of the Racist Cop

And now racial bias is a myth too. How convenient.

Knowing all this, what would you guess is her position on COVID-19? I don't even have to answer. You already know.

What's more is that she has been a vocal opponent of criminal justice reform which could actually be a solution to the problem that she has apparently identified. concha is actually right that she doesn't address any of the underlying problems. But that's the point.

Conservative anti-intellectualism is fueled by stuff like this: call everything into question and then just conclude that since said alleged bias is a myth then we don't have to do anything about it.

So it is conservative pablum to point out that blacks underperform on standardized tests for college and many professional fields, which goes a long way to explaining underrepresentation in said fields due relative to demographics?

I guess we could have backed up and taken a look at the shitty schools that liberals and their teacher union henchmen have knowingly provided for generations (and vehement resistance to the very thought of providing poor blacks with alternatives), but poor Andy might blow a gasket.

Apparently, liberal intellectualism is the removal of standards and teaching black kids "...that rationality, the two-parent family, punctuality, self-control, and being polite were “white” traits".

But that's part of the bias.

Maybe the allege "activists and their media allies" aren't particularly focused in their critiques but that doesn't make racial bias a myth.

So given one chance to prove that he's not seriously interested in the actual topic concha pounces on it.

Just another example for him to post an "interesting" article that merely reinforces his predisposed notions without ever seriously thinking about the issue at hand.

Nobody is surprised.

So apparently black kids have low test scores because they're not punctual, have no self-control and aren't polite.

concha tries hard (not that hard though) to be serious but he can't overcome how much of a clown he is.

The hilarity that is Andy never ceases to entertain, in a village idiot kind of way.

Andy does NOTHING to disprove the point of the article, which is laden with fact to back it up.

Only a partial explanation illustrating Andy's intellectual dishonesty.

Again, Andy does NOTHING to disprove the thesis.

He just goes on a liberal shill shuck 'n jive.

I never intended to disprove anything.

I intended to prove that the writer is not a serious intellectual and offers no solutions to her alleged problem.

If I know exactly what a person is going to write before even reading the article then it's not in any way interesting.

🤣

Guys, concha really wants you to believe that he's interested in intellectual arguments but he can never overcome how much of an obvious clown he is.

"Activists and their media allies"

"Liberals and their teacher union henchmen"

"white traits"

"village idiot"

"liberal shill"

As you can see, concha is very serious.

Just now, Atticus Finch said:

Then he just doubles down on being miffed about it.

If you're feeling inferior then the solution is to make better arguments. This is a you problem, concha.

People laugh at you and tear apart your arguments because you're not very smart.

It's not rocket science.

Again, says the guy who has not made any serious response to the article with any facts addressing the thesis.

I'm guessing writing words devoid of substance and relevance was all that was required to squeak by at FAU?

🤡

The article was fairly decent and seemed to have a argument, then you get to the tenth paragraph and it went into the shitter.

White Fragility at it's finest, kinda like Conchita's arguments, fairly compelling arguments albeit with some weak points then it degrades straight to racist bigotry, escalating to name calling and personal attacks.

Why do you say "it went into the shitter"?

The point is that claims of white privilege and patriarchy and all that are expected to be accepted and taken as true at face value. The person making the claim is not expected to provide any evidence that they actually deserved the job over the person that actually got it, and per the data provided in later paragraphs, statistically there are lots of people who may be objectively more qualified out there who are of a different skin color.

In fact, it is pointed out that black students perform at lower levels on the standardized tests yet are not held to the same standards when it comes to qualifying for admission to schools and jobs later on ("reverse" racism/affirmative action).

Where are the name calling and personal attacks in the article?

Super.

And your replies remain devoid of any substance addressing the article or even the statistics it provides.

Again, you don't read.

Which parts of the article are facts?  Seems the article is based off an illogical premise or assumption.

I read just fine.

You made an irrelevant point about women in STEM.

You made a commentary on the author.

You asked an irrelevant question about Covid.

You've danced and shucked and jived and played the fool (well, nor playing for you) and completely avoided the argument and evidence presented in the article.

Andy, typing mental flatulence and addressing an argument are not the same.

You're welcome.

Clown.
