How are the Californians holding up?

Recommended Posts

I'm too far north. Didn't feel any of 'em. But all n all, Californians are pretty used to quakes. I've been in, I don't know, 20 quakes in my life. Many over 5.0 and a couple over 6.0. So when I feel 'em I'm like ...cool. But the Loma Prieta in '89 (6.9-7.0) was a whole different ballgame compared to all of the rest. Once you get past 6.5 or so....it's time to hold the eff on. And those big ones last so damn long. I was 40 miles from the epicenter in '89 and it felt like a monster. I can't even imagine what the residents of Ridgecrest musta felt being like 6 miles from the epicenter. Even though that's kinda out there in the desert, that's still a big quake. I pray that loss of life remains nil and damage is to a minimum. A quake that big in LA or SF would be catastrophic. As we always talk about though, it's not if, it's when. 😲

It was swaying good here. Was at buddies house and water was splashing out of pool.

Didn’t feel a thing, way north of the epicenter. The length these lasted (heard around 40 seconds or so) and how shallow (1/2 mile for the one last night) is kinda surprising. As @Blueliner pointed out it was not near an urban center so damage is relatively minimal. In that area I am sure a few meth labs were put out of production. But not a lot of population or infrastructure out in that area.
