... seems the idea of rogue elements in the FBI is no longer a “conspiracy theory”.

a couple things, first is that CNN is who broke this story, so there goes your conspiracy theory.

and

"Yet the situation did not sway an independent Justice Department watchdog from finding the surveillance was valid"

A former CIA case officer was sentenced Friday to 19 years in prison for conspiring to provide American intelligence secrets to the Chinese government, in an espionage case that some current and former officials say dealt a devastating blow to U.S. intelligence operations.

Jerry Chun Shing Lee, 55, served 13 years as a Central Intelligence Agency case officer in several locations overseas, including China, where prosecutors said he had firsthand knowledge of some of the agency's most sensitive secrets, including the names of covert CIA officers and clandestine human sources in China.

Depends who leaked it to CNN.  Sometimes the investigated leak to put their own spin on it.  Falsifying evidence to a court to bolster your case is a big whopping no-no.  The CNN story was laying the groundwork for “mistakes were made”.

He knows this. EVERYONE (minus 66) knows this. The spin is already starting...nooner’s statement is perfect example.

If the investigation was launched via tainted means, then that doesn't matter in the slightest.

This thread is a good illustration that often just announcing the investigation is the deliverable...

Assuming the story is correct, here, someone may want to go check on Devin Nunes...

@concha@Blueliner

I'll throw in a "New York Times: Suitable for Wrapping Fish!"

Then we can say only by reaching across the aisle and working together we hit the trifecta of tired newspaper humor cliches.

😉

If you are talking about wrapping fish to be eaten then you are way out of line here.

Who the hell would ingest something wrapped in NYT paper?  You might as well have your dog take a dump on it and throw it on a plate.

Well, despite the trifecta of cliche newspaper humor, misattribution to the death of democracy, and amusing lectures about sourcing from the Q-Anon guy, it turns out the NYT reporting above was accurate.

IG Report Here

Nobody commented on the first sentence of my post, but the pattern continues:  Call for an investigation of a favorite Trump target; speculate about the likely outcome; seize on any collateral evidence that emerges; spin the results; then move quickly to the next investigation (Also sound like Ukraine?)

After what? A year or more of Hannity and others hyping the IG report as the the answer to all the fervent hopes about Russia and Clinton e-mails, it doesn't say anything of the sort, but there's just enough in the IG report to fuel more 'deep state' conspiracy and we are now moving on to the next investigation: "I do think the big report to wait for is going to be the Durham report," Trump said, "That's the one the people are really waiting for."

So here are we, three investigation layers deep.  We now have an unprecedented AG investigation into the IG (who is supposed to be apolitical by design - IG's investigate AG's, not the other way around), who investigated the origins of the Russia investigation.   Eventually Trump will get the result he wants, and the half century  movement toward the ideal of non-politicized law enforcement will have been set back decades...

The investigation was triggered by someone overhearing a drunk guy telling lies in a bar...so it's all good lol.

Watching the leftists unsuccessfully try to justify, explain, and rationalize these past 3 years away has been nothing short of absolute comedy. It's unfortunate that they are completely willing to (try to) fuk over the entire country to get their way. But hell, they don't like America anyways, so it's still all good🤣
