MaxPreps ranking question.

Can anyone justify this? Carmel,IN is ranked 114th nationally with a record of 11-3.

Trinity,KY is currently 12-2 and ranked 136th nationally.

Trinity obliterated Carmel 41-14.

I thought maybe they gave Carmel a boost for winning the state title, but their national ranking only moved up 14 spots. And Trinity 18 spots. So Carmel was still ranked ahead of Trinity even before they won state.

can someone break some knowledge down about this? @golfaddict1 @ECHS05 @stanscript

Cathedral (IN) beat Trinity 28-7

cathesral has a much tougher game with Center Grove (14-9)

Carmel beat center grove twice

center grove also lost to warren central who Carmel beat 28-0

you don’t need a mathematician to see why

Pops you are a natural for preeminent crowd source sourcee for The Tiers.

So daisy chains are more important than the actual head to head?

I’m amazed when head to head Is always the last bit of information used for an argument.

Plus Carmel lost the teams ranked in the 400s and 600s.  That is much more damaging information than who trinity lost to

The things nolebob0803 worries about is, well...not normal.

Of course this type stuff is crucial to people with "nothing".

..

Dude you post threads about some 2 star committed to Tulane.

You post fringe child pornography of high school boys.

you exposed yourself as a racist pile of garbage because your state champion was getting a running clock put on them by a non TX winner.

And you go to barbershops you blow pussy coaches in the bathroom.

How do you arrive at the conclusion that head to head was the "last  bit of information used ?"

This is not a logical assumption.

No one suggests that daisy "chains are more important than the actual head to head" yet you have to question this?

There are contradictions everywhere in a ranking of anything with large numbers, often with small numbers too. That is why a well programmed machine is set to use the preponderance of the evidence.

Your post looks to exceptions, not in macro. You take exceptions and insist it represent the whole. That is flat out bad logic.

Peace brother.

Trinity has the advantage in every category except SOS.

Head to Head - Trinity curb stomped them 41-14

Wins and Losses - Trinity has more wins and less losses

Who they lost to? Carmel lost to garbage teams in the 400-600’s where Trinity only lost to teams in the 100’s.

Carmel has a better SOS.

Why would SOS trump all those other more important factors?

If Trinity beats Male, look for Trinity to get a chutes and ladders nice roll of the dice finish with a state final win boost and pass Carmel.    The algorithms (especially in the top 100) tend to look off this time of year as some teams are boosted a bit faster than others, due to the playoff round status.   The week prior was probably the peak of this date sensitivity effect, where states well ahead in the playoff rounds benefited the most.

Yours is a good and concise explanation of what is going on.  This leapfrogging by teams from states finishing early is one of the reasons that a state like Ohio has more teams rise to the top than seems to be realistic.  It all settles down in the end as other states finish their playoffs.

Trinity will probably surpass Carmel after this weekend, even with a one point win.

For what its worth, sometimes single game comparisons can be misleading.    As I crunched scores the last several weeks, I am amazed at how many teams that lost to a team in the regular season came back to beat them in the post-season.      You do not have to look no further than yesterdays Trinity-Male game to see that.   In the Carmel-Trinity analysis, two things are apparent, Carmel was playing a lot better at the end of the season and there is no way that Louisville Trinity is not in the Top 50 in the country.
